I’m delighted to share that i’ve been selected and accepted to participate in Cop29 Simulation. By the end of the 1st day of COP29 Simulation, where we delved into the complexities surrounding climate change. The session provided a comprehensive examination of the scientific foundations of climate change and highlighted the significant variations in its impacts between the global north and south. Also We were privileged to hear from Dr. Marianna Poberezhskaya, an Associate Professor at the Department of Social and Political Sciences at Nottingham Trent University. Marianna Poberezhskaya Dr. Poberezhskaya shared her profound insights into the scientific aspects of climate change, emphasizing how different regions experience its effects unevenly. Her analysis underscored the urgent need for tailored approaches to address the specific challenges faced by various parts of the world. Moving to The Role of Institutions in Youth Empowerment for Climate Action Following the session, we participated in a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Ahmed El-Seragy, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education Quality and Employability at The British University in Egypt's Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering. This led us to an engaging discussion with experts who shared their experiences and strategies for mobilizing young people to take meaningful action against climate change. We're excited to share the insights and outcomes from the regional discussion session led by IUCN Med director Maher Mahjoub at the Africa Conservation Forum. Representatives from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, along with observers and invited associations, participated in a vibrant exchange focused on the development of IUCN's 20-year vision and the 2026-2029 programme.   Key recommendations: - Strengthen IUCN’s position at global conservation events. - Include diverse stakeholders in vision consultations. - Enhance communication among IUCN members. - Integrate Human-Nature symbiosis in addressing global challenges. - Prioritize governance support and sustainable practices. - Consider regional specificities and economic development in programmes. - Strengthening and involving members in implementing IUCN’s vision and programme through mutual cooperation. - Engage youth in vision and programme development.   Imen Meliane, IUCN Vice-President and Regional Councillor, supported the discussions, reinforcing the message of collaboration: One Voice, One Africa, Stronger Together.   As we approach the World Conservation Congress in 2025, these collaborative efforts and contributions are crucial in shaping a sustainable future. Today, the OECD - OCDE launches the Green Growth Policy Review of Egypt in Cairo. A rapidly growing emerging economy and a demographic heavyweight on the African continent, Egypt faces significant environmental challenges. High population growth, land-use change, pollution, and climate change are increasingly putting pressure on Egypt's natural environment, including its rich biodiversity. Despite this, since 2017, Egypt has achieved a relative decoupling of greenhouse gas emissions from economic growth. To continue this positive trend, further mainstreaming of climate action across sectors and progressively raising ambition is essential. As one of the world’s most water-stressed countries, Egypt can benefit from more robust water allocation and greater use of economic instruments to address scarcity and improve water quality. Aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030, the government is committed to turning environmental challenges into opportunities. Steps are being taken towards more sustainable waste management and addressing air pollution, which remains a health concern. Moreover, Egypt holds significant potential to accelerate its clean energy transition. While there have been improvements in environmental information and data, enhancing public participation in environmental decision-making is crucial for continued progress. 🔙 About last week || Strengthening capacities to effectively manage SUPs in and around coastal and marine protected areas 🌊💦 👉 MedWaves attended the 'WES Regional Mediterranean Training on Achieving SUPs-Free Coastal and Marine Protected Areas' from July 9-12, 2024, in Thessaloniki, Greece. 🎯 The overall objective of this regional training was to capacitate the WES-MED Project Partner Countries in achieving SUPs-free coastal and marine protected areas, enhancing responsible tourism and recreation activities in coastal areas and strengthening the science-policy-practice interface through community-based research. 🤝 This 4-day training, enriched with case study presentations, working group sessions and interactive exercises, has underscored that through collaborative efforts, we can effectively promote and advocate for sustainable practices aimed at reducing SUPs. شاركت الشبكة العربية للبيئة والتنمية #رائد في الحدث الذي نظمته #وزارة_الري_والموارد_المائية والذي عقد مؤخرا في إطار أنشطة البرنامج الدولي لتنمية الاتصالات في مصر، وكانت اللجنة الداخلية المعنية بمناطق الدلتا والسواحل #IPDC قد بدأت العديد من الأنشطة مع شركائها للتواصل وخلق فرص للتعاون، من أجل سد الفجوات في قضية التكيف مع المناخ، وكذا السماح بتوسيع نطاق إجراءات التكيف مع المناخ وتسريعها في مناطق الدلتا والسواحل القادرة على التكيف مع المناخ. وهدف اللقاء تحديد الأنشطة ذات الأولوية، بغرض مناقشة اختناقات التكيف مع المناخ في مصر، وتحديد مجالات العمل، وصولا إلى تحديد الأولويات سعيا إلى تحديد النطاق بشكل إيجابي في جهود التكيف مع المناخ مصر، ووضع تحدياتها على رأس جدول الأعمال، وزيادة الوعي. شارك في هذا الحدث عددا من الوكالات المسؤولة المعنية بالتكيف المناخي، والوزارات المعنية والمنظمات غير الحكومية، وشركاء التنمية، ووسائل الإعلام، والهيئات العلمية، والمستفيدين المتأثرين بشكل مباشر بتدابير التكيف مع الماء والمناخ. ناقش اللقاء حالة التكيف المائي مع المناخ في مصر، والتركيز على الأنشطة القابلة للتنفيذ التي يمكن أن ينفذها البرنامج الدولي لتنمية الاتصالات، مع تحديد وترتيب أولويات التدخلات اللازمة ووضع خطة عمل منظمة تهدف تعزيز ممارسات التكيف مع تغير المناخ في مصر، وكذا تعزيز التعاون بين أصحاب المصلحة من الكيانات ذات الصلة بما في ذلك الحكومة، والمنظمات غير الحكومية وشركاء التنمية والمجتمعات العلمية والمستفيدين.

🗓️ 04 et 05 Mai 2024. 🌍 8ème Journée Nationale de Climatologie. 📍Ravie d'avoir participé à la 8ème Journée Nationale de Climatologie, organisée chaque année depuis 2016 par l'Association tunisienne de climatologie "ATU Climat". ✅Cette année la journée s'est tenue à Kairouan les 4 et 5 Mai au Complexe des jeunes sous la thématique " les Changements Climatiques et les Risques Hydro Climatiques dans la région de Kairouan". 🤝✔️Des géographes et climatologues tunisiens des universités de Tunis, Manouba, Sousse, Sfax, Jendouba, Kairouan, ainsi que diverses parties prenantes, se sont réunis pendant ces deux jours pour discuter des problématiques du CC, de ses impacts négatifs et des solutions innovantes pour garantir un développement résilient, inclusif et durable en prenant l'exemple de la région de Kairouan un des régions les plus impactées de ces CC. 🎯Les objectifs de la rencontre étaient de sensibiliser aux défis du CC en Tunisie, d'encourager les responsables locaux à prendre des mesures urgentes lors de la planification des programmes de développement, et de favoriser les échanges entre la recherche académique et les acteurs de terrain.🌐🤝 ✔️🎯Mon intervention porte sur l'Empreinte Carbone, l'importance de cet indicateur, les activités humaines qui l'affectent et la méthode de son calcul. ✨🙏C'était toujours un plaisir et un plus d'avoir l'opportunité d'échanger avec des experts de domaine en CC et d'apprendre de leur expertise. 🌐🤝Cet événement a été le fruit d'une solide collaboration entre l'ATU Climat, notre @Agence de Démocratie Locale "ADL Kairouan, @APNEK, BICADE, RAED- Arab Network for Environment and Development , GNDR , et aussi les autorités régionales. #ClimateChange #ClimateJustice #SocialJustice #ClimateAction #Kairouan_Tunisia.
