Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital

Since ancient time, peoples are dependent on plants to maintain health, protect disease, regain lost health etc. Medical Science, with the modernization of our country(Bangladesh) Unani and Ayurvedic system has been sufficient progress. Unani and Ayurvedic Medical college & Hospital has been established. It is affiliated by Pharmacy Faculty of Dhaka University. It is only one Herbal Medical College in Bangladesh at the graduate level. 10 March 1989, with the advice and financial support of WHO this college is established.

Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital is also known as Govt. Unani and Ayurvedic Degree College, Govt. Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College, Unani and Ayurvedic College, Ayurvedic College etc.

College Campus

Grace campus, three acres of beautiful campus environment are enclosed by boundary walls. The Campus is relevanced with Academic Building, 3 storied 100 bed Hospital,Production & Research Building, two College Hostel for Boys & Girls, College Central Mosque, Three Herbal Medicinal Plants Garden etc. The Academic Building has its own Anatomy Museum, Pathology Practical Lab, Unani Adviyah Museum, Ayurvedic Herb's Museum, Airconditioned Library, Computer Lab, College Student Parliament etc. The Hospital has External Department, Internal Department, Emergency Department, Unani Division, Ayurvedic Division, A Branch of ICDDRB, Pathology Department, Surgery Department etc. Other most pleasant place is Campus Garden. Campus Garden is fullfiled of various medicinal plants.

Courses

There are two cources - BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery) and BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) 5 years with 1 year internship are affiliated by Pharmacy Faculty of Dhaka University.The college syllabus is same as MBBS except medicinal subject.

Field of Higher Education & Employment

B.U.M.S & B.A.M.S doctors can get their higher education from India,China,Japan,U.S.A,U.K etc and scholarship is available in good result. In addition to,they can complete their M.phil,MD,PhD from Dhaka University,Rajshahi University etc. In the field of employment,they have a very good chance to job government and private health sectors. They can take part in BCS Cadre Examination.

Teacher's and Student's

Now, the total student number is about 300 including 110 female students. Every year 25 Unani and 25 Ayurvedic = Total 50 Student will be admitted by admission test. Admission application, qualification, test method, fee's are same as public and private medical admission test. There are only 28 Teacher's and Medical Officer's. Many of them are PhD holder.

Student Parliament & Cultural Activity

Student politics are very active here. 1st parliamentary election was held in 1995. Student parliament is a place where student's express their complain and try to remove their problems. Various cultural program held at the college.
