Borge, Victor

(1909–  ) entertainer and pianist; born in Copenhagen, Denmark. A deliciously funny performer who fled the Nazis in 1940, he used his classical training to skew serious music and performers. In 1956 he began to make regular appearances with symphony orchestras.

Victor Borge, born Borge Rosenbaum, was known by many titles, the most well-known being "The Great Dane" and "The Clown Prince of Denmark." He came to the United States in 1940 because his Jewish heritage and his political humor against Adolph Hitler made him a target for the Nazi regime.
