Yesterday at the IX Energy Forum of elEconomista I had the opportunity to address the fundamental role that renewable gases will play in the future of the sector and the necessary infrastructures so that they can be part of the energy mix, sharing a discussion table with Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri, CEO of Enagás; Fidel López Soria, CEO of Redexis; Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia; Jorge Lanza Perea, CEO of Exolum; Oliverio Álvarez Alonso, partner in charge of Energy, Resources and Industry at Deloitte; Gonzalo Cañete, CEO of PreZero in Spain and Portugal and Jose M Llopis, managing director Spain of Smartenergy. Nortegas' strategy hinges on the development of renewable gases as a vector for the #decarbonization of natural gas networks. In this sense, our #biomethane plan is not only ambitious, it is transformational. We currently have 40 projects under development with a production potential of 2 TWh per year, and our goal is to have nearly 70 operational plants by 2030. This means a volume of 3 TWh of biomethane injected into the gas networks in Spain, close to 900 million euros of investment and the creation of 450 new direct jobs. We are decarbonizing in an efficient and sustainable way and generating a stronger economy. Maximizing biomethane's potential requires regulatory and institutional support. Triggers such as the streamlining of processing processes, the establishment of quotas in the commercialization of natural gas, the remuneration of reverse flow infrastructures as assets of the Gas System, as well as clear regulatory signals to agents generating organic waste in order to stimulate its energy recovery, would allow accelerating the development of this opportunity for decarbonization and energy independence for Spain. Regarding #renewablehydrogen, we trust in a rapid transposition of the gas and hydrogen package directive that will allow the development of this decarbonization vector with efficient, sustainable and safe transport and distribution infrastructures. And in this sense, the proven experience in construction, management and operation of networks of the agents, including Nortegas, that have made possible the development of the Spanish Gas System over the last decades will undoubtedly be an essential element in this endeavor.
