🛢️🇺🇸 Amazing news from #Texas: the #oil giant is making big strides in #renewableenergy. Texas is undergoing a significant #energytransition. Despite its large size and reliance on fossil fuels, Texas has rapidly adopted solar and battery storage, particularly in response to extreme weather events. This shift is evident in the state's grid, ERCOT. While its renewable energy penetration is comparable to Australia's, their #grid #demand is almost twice as this country's. Notably, solar and battery storage have reached new peaks, helping to stabilize wholesale power prices. During a recent peak demand period, strong solar generation kept prices in check. As solar output decreased in the evening, battery storage stepped in, setting a new record for net load contribution. Although prices neared the bid cap, they remained below it, and the grid operated reliably without utilizing all available capacity. In this article, Grid Status demonstrates the growing role of solar and battery storage in managing grid stability and power prices, even in a state traditionally reliant on fossil fuels.
