Last week we had the privilege of participating in Fusion Point's 10th anniversary, a celebration of the Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) course in an event held at The Social Hub in Poblenou. CBI is a flag-ship innovation and multidisciplinary education programme powered by IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN, that connects pressing societal challenges with science and technology at CERN. Luciana Leveratto, co-founder and Director at wonnd, has been one of the founding mothers of the programme. It has been a vibrant meeting where university professors, entrepreneurs, companies, and students shared the learnings of the last 10 years and a reflection on the future of innovation and experiential learning. At wonnd, we believe collaboration is the key to progress and creating meaningful solutions to complex problems. As we don’t believe in isolated heroic disciplines, we celebrate the success of CBI during the last 10 years, training students from business engineering and design to create a better future together. #ExperientialLearning #Innovation #Education #Collaboration #CBI #SDGs #Entrepreneurship #wonnd Esade Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) IED Istituto Europeo di Design Gerardo Fuksman Luciana Leveratto

⭐ 10 years journey on innovation and education, 10 years of shared passion with incredible people, 10 years building connections ⭐ In innovation, people are the key (and in life in general, of course). The opportunity to be surrounded by great minds, and generous peers willing to walk a new path and learn together, is the most valuable treasure you can find. And if this happens in a hub like IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN, that gives you the Licence to Dream, then it is a double treasure. ⭐ 10 years ago, I was that lucky to find it. When I was the Master's Academic Dean at IED Barcelona I had the amazing opportunity to join an incredible team of passionate professors of business from Esade, and engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and bring the design perspective to the team that started the Barcelona section of the Challenge Based Innovation course. The programme leverages the expertise and technology of CERN to address pressing societal challenges aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, and it's running under the umbrella of the European project ATTRACT EU Academy in recent editions. Last week I had the privilege of participating in #FusionPoint's 10th-anniversary celebration of the Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) course in an event held at The Social Hub in Poblenou. I am proud of being part of the creation of CBI and participating in four editions of this programme. It has been a path full of curiosity, uncertainty and collaborative effort and learning. What started as an experimental pilot is now a mind-changing education experience, and inflection point for the students that participate, the innovators of the future. The most important reward of this experience is the people I met during that journey. The connections with people remain, and during the last years, and in the next to come, these connections led to beautiful and enriching projects. A real Treasure. Thank you IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN, Markus Nordberg, Pablo Garcia Tello ,Tuuli Utriainen, Joona Kurikka, Laura Wirtavuori Catarina Batista Ole Werner for being that Hub that powered the CBI experience, and for promoting the serendipity that created so powerful connections that remain over time. Thanks, Alessandro Manetti, PhD for trusting me to lead this project. Thanks, Ramon Bragós Bardia, Juan Ramos Castro, Kyriaki Papageorgiou, Lotta Hassi, Guido Charosky, Ian Collingwood for being so good travel companions, and Nanita Ferrone and Mireia Sierra Andrés for exploring new adventures. My gratitude to everyone I had the opportunity to meet and learn from during this journey. At wonnd, we are on a permanent search for relevant sources of information which may be useful for anticipating future scenarios and concept design for new products or services. It is part of our curiosity journey and continuous learning philosophy. Luckily, we found days ago this great piece developed by Ogilvy Consulting: "2030 Forecast", a must to read. It is an interesting report, with an honest reflection on what forecasting means, which we subscribe to. We share Carla Hendra's introductory words: “Forecasting is always an iffy proposition, no matter who does it, how much data we analyze, and how many trends we consider. Too many variables can change the trajectory of what might seem a rock-solid conclusion. Both “known unknowns” and “unknown unknowns” pile up as time advances and can turn a forecast into a fool’s errand.” Thanks to Ogilvy Consulting for sharing your findings with the professionals who are interested and need it. We encourage everyone to use it responsibly. At wonnd we believe opportunities are out there, and not everything is done. The approach is part of the solution and knowing how to look, imagine, and anticipate is a key strategic factor for finding those opportunities. #wonnd #strategy #innovation #NPD #Servicedesign #Conceptdesign #Forecast #anticipation #trends #noteverythingisdone Luciana Leveratto Gerardo Fuksman #2030 https://lnkd.in/gdW6-zHZ

At wonnd we work on the anticipation of future scenarios and concept design for new products or services. For us is always good to have useful sources of inspiration that complement our own research, and help us understand the dynamics of social trends, the detection of new behaviours, and the configuration of some categories. These days we have on our desktops some reports, that are available for free and for everyone who wants to use them correctly and ethically. We highlight three of them that we think are useful and have inspiring triggers. Not all of them are in the same direction, nor will all predictions necessarily come true, nor will these projected scenarios happen. But they are a very good exercise to think, ideate, forecast, and imagine possibilities. Data is strategic: the qualitative and quantitative data we collect is key but more important is how we design the information to connect it with the strategic targets and audiences. To reveal the hidden value buried in numbers, lists and acronyms contained in lots of Excel files, and decode them to make them meaningful, we first need a strategic vision: What is the value to communicate? What is the story we have to tell? Which is the most appropriate language to use to connect with the different audiences? And behind data, there are always people. And in this concrete case, the IdeaSquare Progress Report, data shows the work and daily effort of a passionate team of brave people challenging the established and looking for strategies to create a better future. 🌟 It’s been a privilege to make their work shine! 👇 Have a look at the link below to see the last IdeaSquare Progress Report 2021-2023, powered by wonnd strategy agency. We love exchanging ideas, and the discussions with our colleagues are always good food for thoughts! We share 5 key takeaways from our informal conversations yesterday evening at the Opening Barcelona Design Week 2023 at the #RocaBarcelonaGallery, after the Design for Human Future conference. There was a very inspiring occasion: interesting talks, meetings and venue. These five takeaways align with the principles we promote at wonnd in any conversation, any project, any design, and any future we envision. 1. INTEGRATING DISCIPLINES is fundamental for creating innovative and effective solutions to complex problems. Design is a discipline that brings onboard strategic processes and mindset, not only aesthetic solutions. 2. MAKING MISTAKES IS AN INVALUABLE SOURCE OF LEARNING. Success is the end result of a process, and during this process we need to know how to manage failure for progress. This is how innovation happens. And innovation is more complex (and interesting) than creativity. 3. SOCIAL CENTRIC, ECO CENTRIC, PEOPLE CENTRIC. We don't need to forget that the focus has to be on people and the environment, taking care of resources, and concentrating on how what we do covers a real need. This is the way to gain relevance, future projection and sustainability. (And this applies to design, but not only). 4. SUCCESS IS COLLABORATIVE. There is a need for policies that move forward a new approach to problems. Collaboration spaces create new practices, behaviors, and interexchange dynamics that benefit society. Design practice should move beyond the designer’s signature. 5. OPEN TO THE WORLD. Barcelona has an enormous global, international, and multicultural breeding ground for thought! In the context of a world in conflict, the Mediterranean sense of belonging, cultural exchange, and mixing should be promoted. It was interesting yesterday to attend presentations with mixed Spanish, English, and Catalan, with Italian and German accents, with an international audience where we could hear Dutch, Portuguese, and Latin American voices... Many thanks for so inspiring conversations Alessandro Manetti, Marta Aymerich Mallorca, Alessandro Rancati Starglide, Carmelo Zappulla, and Ana de Andrés. And to Luki Huber for the Manual Thinking workshop to search for opportunities on the SDGs. We hope that the 18th edition of Barcelona Design Week will be a success and a driving force for growth and learning.
