I agree with @Emily Pfeiffer on this one. Most platforms are headless now, and when choosing a vendor, you should look at other criteria: - B2C vs. B2B - set of functionality required for your industry (grocery vs. fashion, complex machinery vs. selling services, ...) - Composability and what parts of Ecommerce platform you need vs. separate systems - Options to develop your own head vs pre-existing integration with universal head as vuestorefront

The term's inventor (I believe it came from somebody at CommerceTools) should get the honor of introducing the most confusing term in Ecommerce jargon :-). When explaining to non-technical people, I usually use the head as an analogy to the storefront (customer-facing) interface, the body as the backend with business logic, and the API that connects them as a neck. Since practically every Ecommerce platform, even legacy systems, has developed APIs and calls itself headless, using headless as a differentiator does not work anymore. The quality of APIs and how comprehensive they are differ from platform to platform, but that requires going much deeper into research and assessment of their capabilities.

Ecommerce is constantly evolving. Who have heard of curbside pickups before pandemic or was planning to sell on Tik Tok? New business models, tools, approaches are constantly developed, applied, discarded, adopted. Plus we are entering age of AI that is going to impact Ecommerce in so many ways.
