I was recently invited to a panel where I had the opportunity to discuss the purpose of the Fundación Espacial Katya Echazarreta. One of them is to encourage the development of CURIOSITY, which, although it sounds simple, is key to our entire operation. I can tell you that my curiosity was a factor in my decision to promote the #ReformaEspacial and establish my foundation. Without question, this is what will lead us to innovate in new space careers, technologies, teaching methods, and stand out internationally. CURIOSITY is in all of us, so in our projects, we aim to develop it to its maximum potential. ------- Recién fui invitada a un panel en el que pude hablar sobre la #FundaciónEspacial y su propósito. Uno de ellos es fomentar el desarrollo de la CURIOSIDAD; y aunque suena algo simple, es clave en toda nuestra operación. Puedo decirles que la curiosidad, en parte me llevó a impulsar la #ReformaEspacial y crear mi fundación. Es, sin duda, lo que nos llevará a innovar en nuevas carreras espaciales, nuevas tecnologías, nuevas formas de enseñar y destacar a nivel internacional. This helps bring a diverse range of perspectives, ideas, and innovation to the organization. 2. Gender Inclusivity: ISRO has taken steps to encourage more women to join the organization, particularly in roles that have traditionally been male-dominated in the field of space research and technology. Kalpana K and Ritu Karidhal are nothing short of inspiration. 3. It is a real pleasure to publish again in Acta Astronautica a recent study performed with Universidade de Vigo. We propose a solar electric propulsion (SEP) spacecraft design for a scientific mission to Mars with a polar orbit. With the increasing interest on reaching lunar and martian orbits, electric propulsion becomes the most efficient and sustainable system. In this project we focus mainly in the orbit design and system engineering aspects of a martian probe. As always, I would like to thank Universidade de Vigo for all the support I have always received, especially from School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering. Also, this particular project involves members of two separate research entities, atlanTTic - Research Center for Telecommunication Technologies and the recently created Instituto de Física e Ciencias Aeroespaciais (IFCAE), which I recently joined.

This week has been a whirlwind of eye-opening experiences for me. I had the opportunity to plog for the first time with Plogging Mx and also presented my final project for the Professional Certification in Sustainability at MIT Professional Education. What's the common thread? Well, my project focused on the detrimental environmental impact of single-use packages for agricultural products and explored the feasibility of replacing them with alternatives made from organic waste. Through my research, I've learned about the sobering facts and figures regarding the negative effects of plastic on the environment, economy, biodiversity, and health. During the plogging activity in Mexico City, I was confronted with the sheer volume of litter strewn across the streets and parks. It was both surprising and sad. Not only did we dedicate time to cleaning up, but we also learned about proper waste separation. I was amazed to discover that much of the waste I assumed was recyclable, such as coffee cups, was not. One of the things, that resonated with me the most was a principle upheld by those involved in the movement – we don't plog to clean up cities, but to raise awareness of this problem. Ultimately, these experiences have left me with a lesson: it's not enough to simply refrain from littering or to correctly dispose of waste. The real challenge lies in transforming our habits and fostering awareness about our consumption patterns. It's a crucial step towards effecting meaningful change. 📢Ericsson Takeover: PLOOGING WEEK MEXICO📢 Hola 🖐🏻 Me llamo Gerardo y soy Technical Solution Engineer en Customer Support en Ericsson para LATAM N&C donde llevo más de 10 años trabajando. Cuando vi la convocatoria de voluntariado conecté perfectamente porque creo que el servir y ayudar a los demás es parte de mi propósito de vida; en el trabajo ayudo a que los clientes estén satisfechos y con estas actividades puedo complementar esta vocación al ayudar a la sociedad y al planeta 🌎. Cuando investigué sobre Plogging, recordé mi natal Venezuela cuando desde joven salía a correr y entrenar en nuestras playas y de manera autentica recolectábamos la basura que nos encontrábamos en el camino 🏃🏻♂️. Ahora muchos años después estoy feliz de haber participado con compañeros de Ericsson que no veía hacía mucho y otros que tuve el placer de conocer y con quienes seguramente volveremos a coincidir. 📌 Quiero invitarlos a que participen en actividades de voluntariado, muchas veces en el día a día se nos olvida ayudar y contribuir en nuestras comunidades. Nos volvemos fríos sobre las necesidades y sobre nuestra capacidad de generar un impacto positivo en lo que nos rodea. Throw Back Time with Exciting News: Empowering African Youth Through Innovation! In the year 2020, I embarked on a journey that I am immensely proud of, and today, I am thrilled to share it with all of you. I was granted a golden opportunity, together with the remarkable William Perry Evans, who was leading the way as the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team Country Lead at the time. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of our Youth Fellowship program, titled #OpenSkies: African Drones for African Data, under the esteemed initiative Fit4Future https://lnkd.in/eeJzd-67 by the Fondation Botnar. We joined forces with the dynamic organization, OpenMap Development Tanzania (OMDTZ), and together, we set out to make a difference! Our mission was to empower and support the youth across three incredible countries - Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda. As the Innovation and Technical Officer at the time, my aim was clear: to ignite the spark of technology in the hearts of these young minds. Fast forward to today, and I am beyond proud to see what we've achieved! The #OMDTZ team, in collaboration with partners across these three countries, has worked tirelessly to empower and uplift our youth. During this remarkable journey, Our Youth Fellowship program aimed high, and the projects that emerged were nothing short of extraordinary. We provided crucial funding and unwavering mentorship from seasoned experts in various fields to nurture these brilliant ideas. But one project truly soared to new heights which I mentored it - the groundbreaking #ROBOTICS Project. It caught the world's attention by reimagining the use of flying robots, or UAVs and drones, as versatile tools for crop spraying, medical delivery, and firefighting. 🌾🏥🔥 Imagine drones, not just as flying machines, but as lifesavers, problem solvers, and innovators. These remarkable aerial vehicles were repurposed for crop spraying, medical package delivery, and even firefighting. What makes this project a shining star in our journey is its unique approach. Three visionary fellows, each with their own distinct purpose, converged with a common goal. Instead of each one owning their drone, we created an environment of collaboration. When it's time for a mission, they swap payloads and adapt the drone for their specific purpose, making it a collective triumph!, Effortlessly transitioning from one mission to another with precision and ease. Witnessing this project evolve has filled me with immense pride. Our fellowship program has not only honed the skills of the youth in the East African Community but has also transcended borders, impacting lives in selected countries across the #EastAfricanCommunity.
