🌊 Kick Off Your Weekend with Control Co-Design (CCD) Insights! 🌊 📢 Our team’s latest research article has just been published in the Elsevier Journal of Applied Ocean Research. 🎉 🚀 In the paper titled “Simultaneous Design Optimization Methodology for Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Substructure and Feedback-Based Control Strategy,” we demonstrate significant LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) reductions—approximately 20% mass reduction—when CCD principles are applied. This breakthrough has the potential to revolutionize traditional offshore wind industry design approaches, paving the way for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the EU for 2030-2050. 🙌 Congrats to our colleagues who authored this paper: Javier López Queija , Ander Tena Mesa , Ander Aristondo, and Eider Robles Sestafe. Our colleague Eider Robles Sestafe Robles participated in #All-Energy last month where she talked about the analysis carried out during VALIDhtp project on the electrical generator winding insulation failure working at overload. Different condition monitoring techniques were investigated through accelerated tests in the Electrical PTO Lab of TECNALIA Research & Innovation using as case study the MARMOK-A5 OWC, developed by IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture. Key findings are helping in the design of the new version of this OWC, and also the increase in power production of the Mutriku Wave Power Plant mangaed by BiMEP through the change of the operational limits of the generator and the valve. Our colleague Joseba Lopez Mendia  has already published the first findings of the test carried out during VALID: https://lnkd.in/dSsNqddx   But that's not all! The 10th Marine Energy conference organised by JRL-ORE is ongoing now. After the introduction of the Director of the JRL-ORE Eider Robles Sestafe, the Rector and the Director of the School of Engineering at the Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, the Director of Strategy Luis Pedrosa of the TECU Unit at TECNALIA Research & Innovation and the Scientfic Director Jose Antonio Lozano at BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics , we are assisting now to a set of technical and industrial presentations about the projects, current ongoing in the Basque Country, as progress in solar floating energy, presented by our colleague Asier Sanz Martinez, and for the social awareness of Offshore Renewable Energy, presented by Eider Robles.

🌊 Exploring BiMEP: A Windy Adventure! 🌬️ Last Friday, we embarked on an exciting journey to BiMEP with this year’s intake of Erasmus Mundus R#EMPLUS master’s students. 🚢🎓 📍 Setting Sail from Bermeo: We boarded the ferry provided by Hegaluze, departing from the charming town of Bermeo. Our destination? BiMEP, the Biscay Marine Energy Platform. 🌊 🌟 Highlights of the Visit: #DEMOSATH: Our first awe-inspiring sight was DEMOSATH, the pioneering floating offshore wind barge, connected to the Spanish grid, installed by Saitec Offshore Technologies! 🌬️⚡ Site Insights: The BiMEP team shared insights into the site, its history, ongoing projects, and exciting future developments. We learned about cutting-edge research and innovation in marine energy. 🌊🔍 #HarshLab: On our return journey, we glimpsed the HarshLab—a hub of experimentation and discovery. 🛠️🔬 🤝 Collaboration Across Disciplines: Beyond students, we were joined by researchers from TECNALIA Research & Innovation, BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics , and Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. Their enthusiasm and expertise enriched our experience. 🤓🌏 🎙️ Lecturing at #REMPLUS: One year more, we’re glad to contribute to the Master REMPLUS program, specifically in the “Operation and Maintenance for Marine Energy Arrays” course. Let’s nurture the next generation of offshore renewable energy professionals! 🌱🌎 🌟 We need passionate researchers and skilled engineers to build a more sustainable world. 🌟🌿

Aupa Athleeeeetic! ⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴 One month ago, Bilbao's football team, Athletic Club, won the King's Cup and according to the well established tradition, in order to allow all the supporters to celebrate with the football players, the Gabarra, a barge with all the team on it, was pulled over the rio Nervion by the FACAL ONCE (Pasajes) tugboat. It was an incredible experience of public celebration and support of a city to the team... and another chance that our colleague Ander Tena Mesa took advantage of to show off the capabilities we have in our group. Indeed, he simulated the towing of La Gabarra (18.5m length x 8.5m width) from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra to Bilbao City Counci. This is a service we at TECNALIA Research & Innovation are proud to offer to the offshore industry, "carrying out T&I studies of floating devices (FOWT/OSS), sizing up required transportation means, and quantifying the technical and economic feasibility of offshore maneuvers" - as Ander himself says.
