Antecedentes
El VTP reduce la administración en una red conmutada. Al configurar una VLAN nueva en un
servidor VTP, se distribuye la VLAN a través de todos los switches del dominio. Esto reduce la
necesidad de configurar la misma VLAN en todas partes. VTP es un protocolo de propiedad de
Cisco que está disponible en la mayoría de los productos de la serie Cisco Catalyst.

Directrices de Configuración de VTP
● Todos los switches poseen el mismo nombre de dominio VTP, a menos que el diseño de la
red exija dominios VTP diferentes.Nota: La negociación de tronco no funciona en los
dominios VTP. Para obtener más información, consulte la sección Bloqueo de Tráfico de

● Todos los switches de un dominio VTP deben ejecutar la misma versión de VTP.
● Si existe alguna contraseña VTP, todos los switches de un dominio VTP poseen la misma
contraseña.
● Todos los switches del servidor VTP deben tener el mismo número de revisión de la
configuración y también debe ser el más alto del dominio.
● Cuando mueve un modo VTP de un switch de Transparente a Servidor, las VLAN
configuradas en el switch VTP Transparente deben existir en el switch del Servidor.
Nota: Los switches Catalyst 2948G-L3 y Catalyst 4908G-L3 Layer 3 (L3) no admiten varios
protocolos orientados a la capa 2 (L2) que se encuentran en otros switches Catalyst. Dichos
protocolos incluyen VTP, DTP y Port Aggregation Protocol (PAgP).
Según se muestra en esta sección, existen dos métodos que se pueden utilizar para configurar
VTP. La disponibilidad de estos métodos puede diferir de la versión del software Cisco IOS®. Por
ejemplo, el Método 1 no está disponible en las versiones más recientes del IOS de Cisco; por otra
parte, el Método 2 (el modo de configuración global) no está disponible en el software anterior en
los switches de la serie Catalyst 6500 que ejecutan el software del IOS de Cisco.
1. Método 1, En el modo de base de datos VLAN:En Cisco IOS Software, se puede configurar
el nombre de dominio VTP, el modo VTP y las VLAN en el modo de configuración de
VLAN.En el modo EXEC, emita el siguiente comando para ingresar al modo de
configuración VLAN:
Switch#vlan database
Emita el comando exit para salir del modo de configuración de VLAN.Nota: Los comandos
end y Ctrl-Z no funcionan en este modo.

2. Método 2, en modo de configuración global:En el modo de configuración global de Cisco IOS

y versiones posteriores soportan el protocolo VTP. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2(8)SA3
y el código anterior no permiten utilizar el protocolo VTP en los Catalyst 2900XL Series
Switches.
Ejemplos prácticos
Ejemplo 1:
Este ejemplo incluye dos switches Catalyst 4500 que están conectados por un link
TenGigabitEthernet:
1. El switch A es un switch nuevo que no tiene nombre de dominio VTP ni VLAN. El switch C
es un switch que existe actualmente y se ejecuta con 16 VLAN en la prueba de dominio
VTP.
2. En este ejemplo de salida del comando show vtp status, puede ver que la versión de VTP se
establece de forma predeterminada en 1. Y el switch A tiene capacidad VTP V2. Sin
embargo, el switch no ejecuta la V2 de VTP en este caso. El switch sólo ejecuta VTP V2 si la
versión V2 está configurada con el comando vtp version 2. En este ejemplo, el switch A se
configura como cliente VTP, también es importante asegurarse de que el switch conectado
tenga una revisión de configuración de 0 o un valor inferior al servidor VTP actual antes de
que se conecte a la red:
