Décimas y lira popular
01 Las décimas y la lira popular
A fines del siglo XIX en Chile, las décimas se usaron
en una forma especial de poesía llamada lira popular,
también conocida como “literatura de cordel”.

Las décimas forman parte de la tradición popular


chilena y muchas de ellas han sido recuperadas por
compiladores desde contextos rurales y campesinos.
Así, encontraremos otra forma de crear décimas de
forma improvisada a la que se denominará Paya.

Los poemas de la lira popular están formados por 6


estrofas: una cuarteta que sirve de introducción al tema,
cuatro décimas en que se desarrolla el tema y una
última décima que sirve como despedida.
Pero, ¿Qué es una décima?
Las décimas son formas poéticas compuestas por una estrofa de diez versos octosílabos (ocho sílabas) que
presenta la siguiente estructura de rimas: el primer verso rima con el cuarto y el quinto, el segundo con el
tercero, el sexto con el séptimo y el décimo y, finalmente, el octavo verso rima con el noveno.
