👩🏽⚕️Do not share your antibiotics with someone else or take an antibiotic that was prescribed for someone else. This practice can also lead to Antimicrobial Resistance. ➡️Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial medicines. ➡️As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat. #AMR #HandleAntibioticsWithCare

In July, Africa CDC and the #Mozambique government hosted the 1st Conference on Transdisciplinarity for Cholera Elimination. Prime Minister Dr. Adriano Maleiane highlighted the resurgence of cholera, with 94,000 cases reported globally from January to March 2024 - half of which were in Africa. Key drivers include extreme weather, poor sanitation, and limited clean water access. The conference focused on sharing scientific insights, exploring innovative solutions, and rallying regional support for cholera eradication. Mozambique has taken significant steps, such as real-time surveillance and improved health services. President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia praised Mozambique's leadership and commitment to end cholera. Dr. Lul Riek Regional Coordinator for Southern Africa RCC at Africa CDC, emphasized the need for collective action to build resilient health systems across Africa and ensure a healthier future for all. #EndCholera
