Mihaela van der Schaar is the John Humphrey Plummer Professor of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Medicine at the University of Cambridge. In addition to leading the van der Schaar Lab, Ms van der Schaar is founder and director of the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine. She was elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2009 and Fellow of the Royal Society in 2024, and was a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute between 2016 and 2024. She is personally credited as inventor on 35 US patents, many of which are still frequently cited and adopted in standards.

Ewelina Barylska is hospital director and chief operating officer at Salve Medica medical centre in Lodz, Poland. She is a passionate advocate for using the latest technologies, algorithms and AI in medicine to support medical staff in efficient diagnosis and treatment of disease. Salve Medica was the first facility in Poland to purchase a next-generation surgical robot, Versius, to perform minimally invasive surgeries, and the hospital has become a reference centre training surgeons from all over central and eastern Europe. Salve Medica has also joined a campaign of the Podaruj Dane Foundation to promote the ethical donation of medical data to foster innovation in medical AI and treatments.

Ms Ritter serves in the leadership of large EU infrastructure projects, such as the Testing and Experimentation Facility Health AI and Robotics (TEF-Health), European Open Science Cloud’s Virtual Brain Cloud and eBRAIN-Health and she is director of the Health Data Cloud of EBRAINS—a research infrastructure on the roadmap of the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures.

Max Gordon is an orthopaedic surgeon at Danderyd University Hospital in Sweden and an associate professor at Swedish research-led medical university Karolinska Institute, where he leads the trauma surgery section and heads the Clinical AI Research Lab. His research spans a range of specialisms, including cardiology, gynaecology and endocrinology, focusing on integrating AI into clinical practice. Mr Gordon has a strong programming background, with expertise in R, Python, and Typescript. He was named AI Swede of the Year 2023 for his contributions to AI in healthcare.

Hugh Harvey is an ex-NHS consultant radiologist and academic. He has held lead roles at two flagship UK startups, gaining world-first CE markings for AI-driven medical devices. He is a prior member of the Royal College of Radiologists’ informatics and AI committees, and is an honorary fellow of the British Institute of Radiology. Dr Harvey acted as co-chair to the Topol health technology review for Health Education England. He is founder and managing director at Hardian Health, a specialist consultancy focused on the regulatory, clinical, health-economics, market-strategy and intellectual-property aspects of software as a medical device.

Lucy Orr-Ewing is chief of staff and head of policy at generative AI platform CHAI. Prior to this, she was engaged in research at Stanford Medicine as a Harkness Fellow in the Clinical Excellence Research Center testing and evaluating generative AI in health care, on best practice large language model deployment, and on patient perceptions of AI in health care. Previously, she served as chief of staff for technology policy for the National Health Service in England, and as head of strategy for the Federated Data Platform Programme, the UK’s largest investment in its data infrastructure which aims to connect all operational health data for the UK.
