Movies Oppenheimer leads 2024 Oscar nominations: See full list, from Emma Stone's double nod to Barbie snubs The Academy announced the Best Film and performance nominees ahead of the final round of the "Barbie" vs. "Oppenheimer" battle. EW's editorial guidelines Updated on January 23, 2024 03:41PM EST After six months of storm clouds brewing in the awards battle between Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, nominees for the 2024 Oscars offered a gilded lining to one of the most epic Hollywood showdowns of the year — and Oppenheimer came out on top with an astonishing 13 overall nods. Leading the Oscar race overall, Oppenheimer stormed nominations Tuesday morning with placements in Best Picture, Director (Nolan), Actor (Cillian Murphy), Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt), while Gerwig's Barbie — which earned eight nods — made headlines for other reasons — particularly America Ferrera's surprise nomination for Supporting Actress and its director's absence from the Best Director lineup, where Anatomy of a Fall helmer Justine Triet and The Zone of Interest's Jonathan Glazer likely took her spot. While Margot Robbie was also snubbed in the Best Actress category, she was nominated for her work in producing the Best Picture-nominated blockbuster. The second-highest number of nominations was Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things haul of 11 nods, which also resulted in Emma Stone becoming a double nominee this year. She is also a producer on the film in addition to showing up in the Best Actress category. Elsewhere, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon earned 10 nominations, though it was curiously left out of the screenplay race. Lily Gladstone's Best Actress nomination, however, still marked a monumental occasion after she became the first Native American woman to place in the category. Announced by Joker actress Zazie Beetz and The Boys' Jack Quaid, the 2024 Oscar nominations followed a contentious awards race that has seen the rise — and fall — of many high-profile contenders, from Cord Jefferson's American Fiction and Celine Song's Past Lives to Bradley Cooper's Maestro. Pictures, James Leynse/Corbis via Getty Images, Melinda Sue Gordon/Universal Pictures Leading up to the nominations announcement, Nolan's history-based epic Oppenheimer steamrolled the precursor circuit, winning top awards at the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards, before leading the nominations list from the British Academy — which shares crossover membership with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences — and scoring major recognition from the Screen Actors Guild as well. Winners will be revealed Sunday, March 10, 2024 during ABC's live ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with Jimmy Kimmel returning to host.
