Flyboys

Based on the true story of the Lafayette Escadrille — Americans who flew for the French during the early days of WWI — Flyboys is a tribute to the last honorable form of warfare. ”All the soldiers were going in [the trenches] with noble intentions, and then the machine gun was perfected and everyone was destroyed,” says James Franco, who plays a small-town boy gone to war. ”In an airplane, it’s one-on-one. You knew your enemy.” The film even inspired Franco to get his pilot’s license. ”I didn’t end up using it,” he laughs, ”but I do kind of know my way around a plane. I’m not up to Travolta jets yet, though.”
