'Wreck-It Ralph' adds voice actors from 'Modern Family,' 'The Office' and classic video games

The animated arcade adventure Wreck-It Ralph has already added characters from Q*bert, Paperboy, Pac-Man, Street Fighter, and Sonic the Hedgehog to its cast.

Now the feature film from Walt Disney Studios Animation has added stars from Modern Family, The Office, 24, and the Disney Channel to fill-out the list of supporting players.

First, a little background:

The movie, out Nov. 2, stars John C. Reilly as an 8-bit video game villain trying to prove he can be a hero by traveling through the power cords to other titles in his arcade. In addition to various made-up titles, the movie also features cameos from a number of authentic video games from yesteryear. (In addition to those mentioned in the lead, there are dozens more in the finished film.)

Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) co-stars as Fix-It Felix Jr., the Mario-esque hero of Ralph’s game, who goes in search of his lost frenemy, while Glee’s Jane Lynch is the no-nonsense Sergeant Calhoun from a terrifying first-person alien shooter called Hero’s Duty.

Comedian Sarah Silverman voices Vanellope von Schweetz, a glitch in a candyland racing game called Sugar Rush, who becomes like Ralph’s annoying little sister as he tries to help her establish herself as something more than a mistake in the program.

At Comic-Con last week, director Rich Moore (a veteran of The Simpsons and Futurama) revealed that Alan Tudyk, best known as the pilot named Wash in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity, would be voicing King Candy, the leader of the land of Sugar Rush.

But now Disney has revealed an even longer list of supporting players:

Dennis Haysbert, (left) who starred in the CBS thriller The Unit, and played President David Palmer on Fox’s 24, will lend his rumbling tones to General Hologram (pictured above) who appears to honor players for their service battling aliens in Hero’s Duty.

Comedians Adam Carolla and Horatio Sanz will turn up in the Sugar Rush game as a pair of security guards. (Best guess: they’re the bumbling variety.)

Mindy Kaling, (right) best known as ultra-needy Kelly on The Office, and soon to star in her own TV series this fall (Fox’s The Mindy Project), has the honor of playing a character with the unforgettable name Taffyta Muttonfudge, one of the mean-girls from Sugar Rush who regularly bully the glitch Vanellope.

Edie McClurg (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains & Automobiles) and Rachael Harris (The Hangover, Fox’s New Girl) will play two Nicelanders — who are the background citizens living within the Fix-It Felix, Jr. game.

Ed O’Neill, the star of Married, With Children who is now best known as the gruff patriarch Jay Pritchett on ABC’s Modern Family, will voice one of the movie’s few actual humans – the owner of Litwak’s Family Fun Center & Arcade, where Ralph and his digital cohorts exist.

Another actual human in the story will be voiced by Disney Channel star Stefanie Scott (who plays nasty popular girl Lexi Reed in the middle-school sitcom A.N.T. Farm). She’ll turn up as Moppet Girl, a gamer who hangs around in Litwak’s arcade mecca.

Finally, Wreck-It Ralph is adding real video game characters to the story, it is only fitting that some of the actual voice-over actors from those games reprise the characters.

Roger Craig Smith (who has voiced Chris Redfield, one of the heroes of the Resident Evil series, and Ezio from Assassin’s Creed), will be reprising the role of Sonic the Hedgehog for the film.

Gerald C. Rivers will again be speaking for the Street Fighter villain M. Bison, along with fellow alumni from the game Reuben Langdon, who plays the blond warrior in the red keikogi, Ken Masters, and Kyle Hebert, who voices Ken’s friend and rival Ryu.
