PopWatch Planner: Olympics, Olympics, Olympics. Plus: 'Total Recall,' an HBO doc, and more

Why even write a PopWatch Planner this week? Of course, it's all Olympics all the time. Check out the first week of the games with three of the biggest sports kicking into high gear: Swimming, Gymnastics, and Track & Field are all getting their moments in primetime. That said, from some big exits on So You Think You Can Dance to a major sci-fi remake to a unique documentary and an incredible art exhibit, believe it or not, there is more to life than the Olympics this week. SUNDAY, JULY 29

Olympics Primetime: Women's Gymnastics Day 1, NBC 7 p.m.

The women's gymnastics team takes the floor for the first time in Day 1 of the team competition. Spoilers already abound online, so we'll stay quiet here, but it's sure to be nerve-wracking watching the high-flying techniques of U.S. gymnasts Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and the rest of the team taking on the competition for the first time in London.

MONDAY, JULY 30

About Face: The Supermodels Then and Now, HBO, 9 p.m.

Olympics Primetime: Men's team gymnastics finals and medal ceremony, NBC, 8 p.m.

About Face made a huge splash at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and thanks to HBO, we have a unique opportunity to check out a film that was not in wide theatrical release. The movie includes conversations with some of the fashion world's most famous faces, including Christie Brinkley, Isabella Rosselini, and Cheryl Tiegs talking about their approach to aging and feelings on controversial topics like cosmetic surgery.

TUESDAY, JULY 31

Hatfields and McCoys out on DVD

Olympics Primetime: Women's gymnastics team final, women and men's swimming finals, NBC, 8 p.m.

The sleeper hit miniseries Hatfields and McCoys from the History Channel is out on DVD Tuesday. Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton star in the classic story about two feuding families in West Virginia and Kentucky after the Civil War. The show broke ratings records when it aired back in May.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 1

So You Think You Can Dance, Fox, 8 p.m.

Olympics Primetime: Missy Franklin and Allison Schmitt anchor the women's 4×200 free relay, NBC, 8 p.m.

So You Think You Can Dance may be on hiatus for the next two weeks, but if you're behind on the dance competition show and want an Olympics-alternative, you can check out this repeat of the Top 20 episode, which includes eliminations of two guys and two girls. Also, the cast of this past weekend's dance movie Step Up: Revolution will perform. It's definitely time to get on the hot tamale train if you haven't already!

THURSDAY, AUG. 2

Olympics Primetime: All-around individual finals in women's gymnastics, NBC, 8 p.m.

This is the big one — the girls are at it again as the U.S. women's gymnastics team vies for their individual medals. Will Gabby Douglas and the rest of the team hold up against stiff competition from China and Russia?

FRIDAY, AUG. 3

Total Recall out in theaters

Olympics Primetime: Penultimate day of swimming, NBC, 8 p.m.

Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, and Kate Beckinsale star in a remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle about virtual memory. The latest edition is directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and is probably worth checking out if only for the three-breasted mutant prostitute.

SATURDAY, AUG. 4

Art exhibit and concert series: Who Shot Rock & Roll, Annenberg Space for Photography (L.A.) and online at KCRW.com

Olympics Primetime: First Track and Field events, NBC, 8 p.m.

Even if you can't make it to L.A., the Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography has some great content online — photos like David LaChapelle shooting Mick Jagger, images from Linda McCartney of the Beatles, and originals of Elvis when he was very young take center stage. If you are in L.A., KCRW is sponsoring a live concert series, including Saturday's performance with Raphael Saddiq and Band of Skulls. Check out the teaser trailer below:

Olympics Primetime: Track and Field finals, NBC, 8 p.m.

The second week of the Olympics in London kick off with Usain Bolt and Justin Gaitlin taking to the track to determine who will be earn the marquis title of world's fastest man in the men's 100M dash.
