Olympics: Aly Raisman goes for gold

Aly Raisman is about to get big. Along with the rest of the Fab Five, Raisman (who is Team USA’s gymnastics captain) has already earned a team gold medal, and tonight, you can watch the 18-year-old compete in individual floor exercise and beam. She may not have been the buzziest name pre-Games, but she certainly has won our attention. EW caught up with Raisman earlier, when she told us about her pop-culture favorites — from Ringer to Channing Tatum — and who she really wants to meet in London.

She’s got “Call Me Maybe” fever. “I just like to listen to music that kind of like pumps me up and gets me ready. I like hip-hop, just kind of like fun music, not slow stuff. I like “Call Me Maybe” a lot! [Laughs]”

She loves ABC Family and The CW. “I normally always room with Jordyn [Wieber] and we normally always watch TV shows on iTunes, and we take turns buying the TV shows so we like to watch Pretty Little Liars and we watch The Lying Game, Ringer, which is a new show. I really like it.”

On being Team Captain. “It feels amazing. It feels really great. All the girls, they all did so amazing, and I’m really glad to be able to share the moment with them because we’re such close friends. … I’m the oldest on the team so that’s still weird. I’m considered old [in my sport] but compared to the other athletes [at the Games] I’m probably one of the younger ones.”

Fan of Channing Tatum. “We like to watch funny movies so we’re upbeat while we’re resting. At Olympic trials, we watched 21 Jump Street, which was really funny. We all wanna see that movie with Channing Tatum, it’s like Mike-something… Magic Mike.”

She wants to meet the Duchess “It’d be really cool to meet Prince William and Princess Kate and visit where they live, and then the double-decker buses and stuff like that would be cool. I like the British accents a lot!” [Note: The dream came true!]

Someday author? “I like to write, so I always keep a journal about my experiences when I travel since I was 14. I thought about [publishing the journals]; I think it’ll be cool to share my experiences with everyone.”
