Radiohead, The Doors, Lauryn Hill, and more selected for National Recording Registry

The Library of Congress’ have selected their annual 25 recorded works to join the National Recording Registry. Among them, Radiohead’s OK Computer (1997), The Doors self-titled debut album (1967), Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), the Righteous Brothers single “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” (1964), the defining Ben E. King track “Stand By Me” (1962), and 19 others. The entire catalog of inductees is now at 425, according to Variety.

Non-music choices include radio coverage of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Funeral (1945) and Steve Martin’s A Wild and Crazy Guy (1978).

Librarian of Congress James Billington said in a statement regarding the yearly selection: “Congress understood the importance of protecting America’s aural patrimony when it passed the National Recording Preservation Act 15 years ago. By preserving these recordings, we safeguard the words, sounds and music that embody who we are as a people and a nation.”
