On Monday evening, the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard were filled with fanatics who had staked out their spots as early as that morning to catch a fleeting glimpse at the stars assembling for the world premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film adds a slew of new characters to the Avengers universe, from speedy Quicksilver to brain-powered Scarlet Witch to the ominous Vision. So naturally, on the red carpet, EW asked celebs which one superhero they’d like to team up with. Spoiler alert: There was a green-hued favorite among the responders.

Joss Whedon, Ultron director: “Probably Thor. Battle’s his thing. Although, Cap would be really worried about me. I think Thor would be like, ‘Let’s go! Oh, you’ve been crushed. That’s too bad. I will swing my hammer some more’ And Cap would be all sad about it.”

Stan Lee, Avengers co-creator: “I think maybe Thor; I feel pretty safe with him. I’d hide behind his shield while he did the fighting. [pause] No, no—that would be Captain America. I couldn’t hold Thor’s hammer. I wouldn’t do good with Thor. It better be Captain America, so I could hold his shield.”

Chris Hemsworth, Ultron cast (Thor): “The Hulk, I think. He’s just pure muscle, isn’t he? [laughs] He’s probably the most powerful, yeah?”

Chris Evans, Ultron cast (Steve Rogers/Captain America): “Oh, God. I’ll take the Vision. You’ll see when you see the movie. How about that?”

Mark Ruffalo, Ultron cast (Bruce Banner/Hulk): Black Widow. Because she’s got my back.”

Chadwick Boseman, future Black Panther star: “I don’t think you ever go against the Hulk. Ever. Ever. I don’t think you ever go against the Hulk. As long as he’s taking his meds or something [laughs], you’re good. You want that fight.”

Elizabeth Olsen, Ultron cast (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch):Thor, because he’s not mortal, and I feel like Scarlet Witch is kind of not mortal, and I truly believe that she is the powerful one in the universe. [EW: “That might be biased.”] [laughs] Yeah, I guess.”

Cobie Smulders, Ultron cast (Maria Hill): “The Hulk. There’s no contest. Yes, there’s no contest. But also Black Widow. I think that it’d be a fun fight to see those two women in action.”

Paul Bettany, Ultron cast (Jarvis/Vision): “I would pick the Hulk, because he’s indestructible.”

Linda Cardellini, Ultron cast: “The Hulk. No, I don’t know. He might… Let me see. Ehhh I’m going to pick the Hulk. I’ve just always been a Hulk fan.”

Claudia Kim, Ultron cast (Dr. Helen Cho): “I would probably like to learn some fight skills from Scarlett [Johansson’s Black Widow], and then fight her—try to fight her.” [laughs]

Lou Ferrigno, The Incredible Hulk: “I would say Tony Stark.”

Brian Tyler, Ultron composer: “Thor seems to have his act together, you know? But of all the Marvel characters, I’m going to go with Vision. I just think Vision—the new one—is kind of the dark horse here. His powers are so mysterious, I’m just going to take a chance, and I don’t know if I really want to be on the other side of Vision. I’ll throw down with him.”

Chris Hardwick, Nerdist host: “Probably Tony Stark. I might get burned by the propulsive jets, but other than that, I feel like Iron Man would probably be the one, because he’s the funniest one. He’s the quippiest.”

Age of Ultron hits theaters Friday, May 1.
