'Avengers: Age of Ultron' surpasses $200 million worldwide

Avengers: Age of Ultron opened in 44 international territories this weekend and earned an estimated $201.2 million over three days. Disney, the studio distributing Age of Ultron, estimates that this opening is 44 percent ahead of 2012’s The Avengers.

This is a good start for Age of Ultron, especially because these 44 territories only make up about half of the global marketplace—the film has yet to open in other big markets, including China and Spain. And, judging by its performance this weekend—it was the No. 1 film in each place it debuted in—it has a bright box office future ahead.

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in the U.S. May 1.
