Bret Michaels goes country with Girls on Bars

From romancing women on Rock of Love to winning Celebrity Apprentice and even starring in his own travel series Rock My RV, Poison vocalist Bret Michaels has done it all. And now—he’s going country, just in time for summer.

The “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” singer recently released the single “Girls on Bars,” off his latest album, True Grit. In an interview with Billboard, Michaels opened up about this new sound and writing the tune with the help of Grammy-winning writer and producer Luke Laird.

“I was touring in the dead of winter and I said, ‘Luke, I need a Bret Michaels fun summer party song and I have an idea,’” Michaels told Billboard. “He’s a fellow Pennsylvanian, so we completely related. No matter where you’re from or who you are, we all want to have a great time. We all need a release. Summertime makes me think of people dancing at the bars, having fun. I think of girls on bars and guys driving fast cars. People are looking for a party after a long cold winter.”

True Grit features several big-name artists like Loretta Lynn, Jimmy Buffett, and Rascal Flatts, filled with new tunes as well as old including an updated version of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Michaels calls the album the “entire history” of where he’s been. Take a listen above.
