Uzo Aduba, David Strathairn join Ewan McGregor-directed American Pastoral

Good Night, and Good Luck actor David Straitharn and Orange Is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba have joined the cast of Ewan McGregor’s directorial debut, American Pastoral, Lakeshore Entertainment announced Wednesday.

Also boarding the long-gestating adaptation of Philip Roth’s Pulitzer-winning novel are Valorie Curry (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2) and Peter Riegert (The Mask).

In addition to directing Pastoral, McGregor will star as Seymour “Swede” Levov, a star high-school athlete who grows up to marry a former beauty queen and inherits his father’s business, only to see his perfect life shattered when his teenage daughter commits an act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War. Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning are set to play Levov’s wife and daughter, respectively.

McGregor took over directing duties from Phillip Noyce (Salt, The Giver), who departed the project earlier this year, and he’ll work from a screenplay by John Romano (The Lincoln Lawyer). Production is scheduled to start this month in Pittsburgh.
