This is usually attributed to Mjölnir’s mystical powers as a weapon crafted by the Norse gods. But apparently, science can be used to achieve the same effect. Allen Pan, host of the YouTube channel Sufficiently Advanced, successfully built a real-life replica of Mjölnir using magnets and a thumbprint scanner. The hammer stays magnetized to metal surfaces, but can only be released by the right thumbprints on its handle. The hammer is keyed to Pan, though as he says in the video description, “if anybody knows Chris Hemsworth or Stan Lee let ’em know that I can register multiple people’s fingerprints to the hammer.” However, at the end of the video, Pan’s real-life Mjölnir meets a real-life Loki who figures out how to trick it.
