Arrow: David Ramsey shares his theories on who's in the grave

Who’s in the grave?!

It’s the question that has been plaguing Arrow fans since the show first teased that someone would get killed off in the new season. Save for a very brief scene in the season premiere that showed Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Barry (Grant Gustin) at a grave, with Ollie vowing to kill “him” over this death, we’ve yet to get any further clues as to who is actually six feet under.

You’re not alone. Even the cast has mostly been in the dark about who’s going to die. “It makes for a great work environment, doesn’t it? You’re on your best behavior,” star David Ramsey jokes. “It’s like I used to be late to set, now I’m not. I asked. I wanted to know. Is Diggle dead? Is it me? They didn’t tell me.”

“In terms of what we do, there’s really a death every season, to some degree,” Ramsey continues. “They’re offing people every year. It reminds me of when I used to do Dexter. I used to go to the back to the script and see if it’s me who dies. I haven’t done that yet. I don’t know who it is.” But Ramsey does have some theories. Check out his guesses on who will bite the big one below:

Diggle

Oliver’s right-hand man is not immune to suffering the consequences, though Ramsey notes there’s one possible explanation why it’s not him: “I would think that Diggle would have more in terms of the military ceremony,” he says. “There would be flags in place. You would think that, but maybe the flag was out of frame, so it could be Diggle.”

Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards)

Since both Oliver and Barry were at the gravesite, the popular theory is that Felicity has fallen. “I just can’t see them messing with that relationship,” Ramsey counters. “Also, I don’t even know if [Oliver] would be able to talk if it was Felicity. He would just be so broken.”

Laurel (Katie Cassidy)

With Laurel finally coming into her own as the Black Canary, an important figure in Ollie’s life in the comics, it seems unlikely she’s on the chopping block. “I just can’t see them putting the father through that again,” Ramsey says. “He already lost a daughter, then he thought he didn’t lose a daughter, then he did, then he didn’t again. Putting poor Lance through all this stuff.”

Thea (Willa Holland)

Another potential victim that Ramsey feels unlikely is Ollie’s little sister. “If you take Thea, his whole family is dead except for him!”

Lance (Paul Blackthorne)

Though many fans assume that Lance’s potential romance with Felicity’s mother, Donna Smoak (Charlotte Ross), spells doom for the stalwart police captain, Ramsey disagrees. “I know who it’s not,” he says. “I don’t think it’s Lance. [Oliver] was really, really upset about it. I mean, he likes Lance, but he doesn’t like him that much. He was really wounded by this death.”

A face from the past

Any number of characters could return from Oliver’s past, including — but certainly not limited to — his current flashback fling Taiana (Eysia Rotaru), the mother of his child (Anna Hopkins), or Shado’s twin sister Mei (Celina Jade). “It might be someone from the past, or someone who we don’t know of that comes up and ends up being very important to Oliver and he loses that person,” Ramsey theorizes.

Someone from … Earth-Two?

Though Oliver was clearly devastated by the death, this could be a case of mistaken identity. Maybe Earth-Two Felicity made her way through a breach and fell victim to, well, any number of male foes, including Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and the upcoming Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). “It throws me off because Grant shows up and they have this twin Earth, this Earth-Two story going on, it’s like parallel universes,” Ramsey says. “Is that what that was? It’s very tough. The writers are so good. Now since you have introduced metahumans, time travel and parallel earths, it’s an infinite amount of possibilities that could be in that grave.” Side note: This would make for an especially hilarious scene if/when Earth-One Felicity potentially walks up to her own grave and wonders what’s going on.
