The Beast might be really big and really fast, but someone in Beacon Hills is going to have to defeat it, and the hero of this particular equation might not be Scott.

As Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis tells EW, Lydia is “a critical piece of the season. At one point, one of the characters says something along the lines of, ‘She might be the one who can save us all.’ “

If you’re wondering how Lydia could be the savior of the group, think back to Dr. Valack’s line about how, if she’s taught, she could shatter someone’s skull with just her voice. “Her finding her power is critical to the season,” Davis says, adding, “That’s why we decided to make episodes 15 and 16 a two-part episode around her, which is the breaking-Lydia-out-of-Eichen episode.”

But before Scott can focus on getting Lydia back, he has to repair a few other relationships within his pack. And thanks to Scott’s reconciliation tour, the writers were able to easily outline much of the season. “Episodes 11 and 12 are about getting Stiles back and rebuilding that friendship, and then episode 13, they journey out to the desert to get Kira back,” Davis says. “Episode 14 is trying to pull Malia back into the pack, and by then, Scott has found that one of the most important ones to him is Liam, and he’s got to figure out a way to repair his relationship with Liam, who tried to kill him.”

So the good news is that Scott is well on his way to getting his pack back, and potentially, Lydia could have the power to save them all. The bad (but also good) news is that this is Teen Wolf, and as always, Davis promises “surprises are to come.”

Teen Wolf airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
