Maze Runner: Dylan O'Brien injured, Wes Ball shares update

Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner films, released a statement regarding Dylan O’Brien after he was seriously injured on the set of the franchise’s third movie, saying that the actor is “going to be just fine.”

“Well, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions these past few days. I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with a deep love and respect for Dylan,” Ball wrote in a letter posted to Twitter. “He is one tough cookie. I’m sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew.”

He continued, “It’s scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine. After a few weeks of rest and recovery he’ll be back up and running to finish our adventure together. All the best.”

Twentieth Century Fox and writer James Dashner released separate statements on Friday after O’Brien was struck by a car during filming on Maze Runner: The Death Cure in Vancouver, Canada. According to the studio, “He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery.”

O’Brien reprises his role of Thomas in Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third installment of the film franchise that’s set for release on Feb. 17, 2017.
