Suicide Squad reshoots explained by Jai Courtney

As with many modern-day blockbusters, it was recently reported that the cast of Suicide Squad got back together for some additional photography before the film’s August release. And while rumors suggested Warner Bros. was hoping to lighten up the DC adaptation’s dark tone, star Jai Courtney says that isn’t necessarily the case.

“I think there’s plenty of [humor] in it,” he told Entertainment Tonight when asked about the reshoots. “I wouldn’t say we’re going back to make it funnier, there’s some additional action stuff that we’ve been doing, which is pretty dope. Really we’re just kind of adding in that sense.”

Courtney is the second cast member to address the additional scenes: Common, who’s playing a still-mysterious character in Suicide Squad, confirmed reshoots to Collider, though he didn’t know too much about them.

Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer (End of Watch) and features Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and more. The DC film centers on a group of incarcerated supervillains granted leniency upon execution of a suicide mission for the government.

The film is scheduled for release on Aug. 5.
