EW has confirmed that the Vampire Diaries alum is in talks to star in Sony’s reboot of Flatliners, the 1990 sci-fi thriller about a group of medical students who go out of their depth conducting near-death experiments. Dobrev would play an overachiever named Marlo in the film, joining a cast that includes Ellen Page and Diego Luna. Niels Arden Oplev, who directed the Swedish adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is helming the new Flatliners, working from a script by Ben Ripley (Source Code). Joel Schumacher directed the original movie, which starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, and Kevin Bacon. It received mixed reviews and grossed $61 million at the domestic box office. Dobrev’s other screen credits include The Final Girls, Let’s Be Cops, and the upcoming xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. Deadline first reported the talks.
