It movie: Bill Skarsgard playing Pennywise in Stephen King adaptation

It has found its Pennywise — again. Hemlock Grove star Bill Skarsgard is in final negotiations to fill the the frightening clown shoes in New Line’s two-movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, EW confirmed.

Director Andy Muschietti (Mama) is also close to adding Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Ray Taylor to the horror project to fill out The Losers’ Club — the central group of friends in the story.

New Line and parent company Warner Bros. set Part 1 of It to arrive September 2017. King’s book follows the Club as children, battling a mysterious being known as “It” that takes the physical form of Pennywise. It also tracks the group as adults, when the clown seems to have reappeared.

True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga was originally on board last year, with Will Poulter cast as Pennywise. Fukunaga dropped out in May 2015 due to script and budget concerns, indefinitely delaying the project.

Pennywise was cemented as his frightening self with Tim Curry’s turn in the 1990 miniseries.

Bill Skarsgard is the son of Good Will Hunting star Stellan Skarsgard and the brother of True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard. Besides Hemlock Grove, he’s also appeared in the Swedish dramedy Simple Simon and World War II drama Simon & the Oaks.
