Danielle Brooks shares beatboxing skills

Danielle Brooks can do it all. She’s the fan favorite character Taystee on Orange Is the New Black, the popular Netflix drama heading into season 5, and she was recently nominated for a Tony for her part in The Color Purple. Last night on Conan, she revealed that she can also beatbox, although her driver may beg to differ.

“I was listening to Biz Markie or something in the car and I just thought I could channel him,” Brooks explained. “My driver told me if you just say ‘boots and skirts’ you can beatbox, but take out the vowels.”

Brooks then proceeded to demonstrate her skills, but undercut how impressive they were when she revealed what her driver thought her beatboxing actually sounded like.

“He said it sounded like I was giving a bad blow job,” Brooks laughed.

After a bit of banter, O’Brien himself showed off his own style of beatboxing, which was also pretty surprisingly good. Check out the clip above.
