Movies Gallery 'Psych': 10 Reasons We Love It USA's silly sleuths return tonight with new episodes -- here's why we think Shawn, Gus, and pretending to be psychic are so much fun! By Marc Bernardin Marc Bernardin Marc Bernardin is a former senior editor at Entertainment Weekly. He left EW in 2009. EW's editorial guidelines Published on January 26, 2010 10:00PM EST Close 1 Kwaku Alston/USA Network Given that Psych — USA's frothy detective show starring James Roday and Dulé Hill as charlatanish detectives Shawn Spencer and Burton ''Gus'' Guster — is hitting the home stretch of its fourth season, we're not alone in being monster fans. So, as those in love are wont to do, we're counting the ways. 1. GUS' SHIRTS Somehow, Gus manages to pull off wearing tops that could, in other countries, be called chemises. Or, in this country, be found on contestants on Dancing With the Stars. But Gus knows how to work it. 2. SLY POP-CULTURE REFERENCES From Prince to 21 Jump Street and Theo Huxtable, there's no pop-cultural stone left unturned. And then, for the newest batch of Psych promos, Shawn and Gus had to go and dress up like Hall & Oates for a remarkably accurate reenactment of the ''Private Eyes'' video. Icing on the cake. 3. GUS SCREAMING LIKE A GIRL Everett Collection Because, unless you actively need rescuing by one, grown men screaming like girls are just funny. 4. CARLTON LASSITER That there's a character (played by Timothy Omundson) who goes by the name Lassie and who is not a dog. 5. GUS' STUPID LITTLE CAR There's a reason why clowns always travel in teensy little cars — because teensy little cars are hilarious. 6. JULIET GOING UNDERCOVER Alan Zenuk/USA network Listen, I'm a heterosexual male, and I like it when attractive women — like Maggie Lawson, who plays Det. Juliet O'Hara — play dress up. Sue me. 7. CORBIN BERNSEN'S AWESOME FAKE HAIR The L.A. Law veteran plays Shawn's retired-cop father, Henry. Most episodes open with a flashback to when Shawn was a wee lad and Henry was torturing/training him by giving him little pay-attention-to-your-environment tests. And Bernsen's young-man hair is mesmerizing. Like amber waves of grain. 8. GUS' SUPERPOWER IS HIS NOSE Alan Zenuk/USA Network Which he has nicknamed ''the Super-Smeller.'' His refined olfactory powers have helped solve many a case. Okay, maybe not many. But the man's nostrils are finely calibrated investigatory instruments. 9. THE ADVENTURES OF YOUNG SHAWN AND GUS Little cartoon interstitials featuring our heroes as school-age kids? Cute and, impressively, occasionally funny. 10. THEY LOVE US RIGHT BACK Alan Zenuk/USA Well — kinda. They're obsessed with pop culture, so it's no wonder the folks over at Psych have been known to name-check EW. Maybe that explains why this crazed, wolf-hide-wearing maniac was named Ken Tucker (just like our very own TV critic)? Or maybe it was reviews like this?
