EW's editorial guidelines Published on September 19, 2017 12:27PM EDT The magnetic chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy draws the breath of life into the new trailer for Andy Serkis’ upcoming directorial debut, Breathe. Based on the true story of Robin Cavendish (Garfield), the biographical drama follows the disability rights activist throughout his twenties, at the tail end of which he was diagnosed with and subsequently paralyzed by polio, after beginning a romantic relationship with Diana Blacker (Foy), his supportive wife. Initially given a short life expectancy after doctors told him his respiratory system would fail outside a hospital, Cavendish and his spouse together defied the grim prognosis by fighting the odds in the face of the devastating disease, ultimately embarking on a worldwide journey to champion the rights of those disabled by disease. Breathe, which premiered earlier this month at the Toronto International Film Festival, was written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter William Nicholson (Gladiator) and framed by three-time Academy Award-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson(Hugo, The Aviator, JFK).
