Florence Pugh recalls the camera breaking during her and Cillian Murphy's Oppenheimer sex scene

"Our camera broke when we were both naked and it was not ideal timing.”

Of all the times for a film camera to break, naked and in the arms of Cillian Murphy is "not ideal," Florence Pugh recently revealed.

During a Universal panel with the stars and director of Oppenheimer, Pugh recalled how the camera broke during a sex scene with Murphy and how she used it as a teachable moment.

“In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke,” Pugh said. “No one knows this, but it did. Our camera broke when we were both naked and it was not ideal timing.”

Pugh played Jean Tatlock, J. Robert Oppenheimer's (Murphy) Communist lover with whom he has an affair while married to his wife Kitty (Emily Blunt).

Pugh continued that she and her costar were on a closed set, both with their arms wrapped around themselves, waiting for someone to come fix the camera. When the camera surgeon arrived Pugh figured, "This is my moment to learn,” and asked the professional, “So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera?”

“You just make your moments,” Pugh added, to the crowd's laughter. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, buddy?'”

One of the biggest films of the year, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer grossed nearly $1 billion and garnered 13 Oscar nominations, the most of any movie this year, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Murphy, Best Supporting Actress for Blunt, and Best Director for Nolan.
