Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer on Sam's radio date disaster

The host also shares his thoughts on why Jenn gave Sam so many chances.

Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Jenn's "journey" to find "love." Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about staying awake in Seattle, Sam's flameout on the radio, and that spiffy jacket they gave him for the Wicked date.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This week, Jenn's journey brought her back to America after spending the last few weeks in Australia and New Zealand. On a scale of 1 (wide awake) to 10 (sleepwalking), how jet-lagged were you when you had to announce the "final rose tonight"?

JESSE PALMER: I’d say I was probably a 2, due in large part to a quad espresso (Seattle is arguably America’s best coffee city), but also because of what was at stake and who might be going home.

You arrived at the Wicked date wearing an emerald green suit jacket. Two-part question: Did you ever imagine you'd find yourself on television wearing a green velvet jacket, and where will you wear it next?

I absolutely love that jacket! Its next usage will be when I try to sneak into the Masters golf tournament next year as a member of Augusta National.

Sam really struggled on the radio date to give Jenn any substantive answers about his feelings, and things only got worse for him from there. Why do you think Jenn gave him so many chances to explain himself before sending him home?

I really feel that Jenn had high hopes for Sam, ever since night one. I think Jenn was willing to be as patient with him as possible to see if he could finally break through before hometowns.

Sam says his emotions are genuine, but Jenn determined that he was just telling her what she wanted to hear. Do you think Sam was being honest?

I’ve thought about that ever since Seattle. There is no question that communication is where their relationship seriously lagged compared to the other men. I’m excited to hopefully dive into this at Men Tell All and find out once and for all where the truth lies.

Finally, to steal a question from that Wicked date: Sweet or spicy — and why?

Spicy, because I love Tabasco sauce and literally put it on everything. Like, everything
