Today our half-year financial report January─June 2024 published: Profitability was supported by the services business, markets still challenging Interim CEO Antti Kaunonen: “In the second quarter, the challenging market environment continued. The Architectural market remained slow. Customers’ cautiousness caused by the slowdown of residential markets in Europe and the US also impacted the demand for Insulating Glass (IG) technologies. Demand for tempering and laminating equipment picked up clearly from the previous quarter’s very modest level. In China, the good demand for pre-processing technologies continued but the markets are expected to be volatile." Today published Inside information: Glaston plans to transfer production of all glass pre-processing equipment to China Glaston is planning to transfer the production of mobility and display pre-processing equipment products from Glaston Switzerland to Glaston’s factory in Tianjin, China. The aim is to further streamline Glaston’s global production capabilities, adjust capacity to meet customer demand, and improve operational efficiencies while continuing to serve customers globally close to their markets. The mobility glass segment’s growth is fastest in Asia while being modest in other regions. Glaston is proud to have set science-based targets, positioning us as leaders in the low-carbon transition. The international Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated Glaston’s carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets for its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) and for the value chain (Scope 3). SBTi encourages companies to implement climate measures in line with the Paris Agreement’s emissions reduction targets, i.e. to limit global warming to 1.5 °C. Glaston is one of the first glass processing technology companies in the world to have received validation from the SBTi for its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. The company is committed to reducing its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50.4% by FY2032 from a FY2022 base year. Glaston is also committed to reducing the Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions generated in its value chain by 58.1% per square meter of sold glass processing capacity within the same target period. Glaston introduced the FC Series E to the market in 2023 to complement its FC Series product family, which features an advanced circulated-air convection technology to process any glass type with high energy efficiency. The tempering line also includes state-of-the-art automation that ensures reliable and flexible production in uniform quality.
