We were honored to welcome representatives from Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency ELY-keskus - Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, the Municipality Director of Pargas stad - Paraisten kaupunki Tom Simola and Planning Manager of Pargas Heidi Saaristo-Levin to Nordkalk yesterday. The visit started at our viewpoint and continued at our HQ, where our Logistics & Sales and Operations Planning Director, Riikka Hynynen, delivered an interesting presentation on Nordkalk's operations and our contribution to maintaining the security and efficiency of society. Riikka highlighted how vital the transport infrastructure between the archipelago and mainland Finland is to us. Over 2.300 tons of lime are being spread across Dalsland’s lakes and wetlands in Sweden to combat acidification and protect vital ecosystems. This autumn, 70 tons of Nordkalk’s lime from our Falköping quarry are being used in Mellerud’s water bodies. Liming is essential to maintaining natural pH levels, ensuring healthy aquatic life, and preserving the quality of drinking water. This project is led by Dalslands Miljö- och energikontor and executed by MOVAB. While the challenge of acidification persists, projects like these demonstrate the effectiveness of lime products in restoring and maintaining the balance in nature. It was quite the operation at our site in Uddagården in Sweden recently when we successfully swapped out the old drying drum that is used to dry fodder lime with. The old drum had been in use since 2001. With four different subcontractors in the mix, we had a crane firm, electrical firm, mechanical firm, and gas firm all working together during the Swedish industrial holiday! The drying drum, weighing in at 11 tonnes, required two cranes to lift it in and out with absolute precision. The crane operators had their work cut out for them, with very little room for error!
