🎉 On June 10th, we celebrated a major milestone in Bangladesh's journey towards a greener future! The brand-new Faridpur Plastic Pyrolysis Plant is now officially open! This innovative plant treats 360kg of single-use plastic daily, transforming waste into valuable energy. With the incredible support of Practical Action, Faridpur Municipality, RiverRecycle, Society Development Committee - SDC, and the Danida Green Business Partnerships / Danida Market Development Partnerships, this initiative not only tackles plastic pollution but also creates jobs and reduces fossil fuel consumption. We were honored to have Amitave Bose, Mayor of Faridpur Municipality, chair the event and Ali Mushtaq Butt, Commercial Counsellor and Head of Trade Mission & Sustainable Infrastructure Finance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, as our chief guest. Special guests included Dr. Zaki Uz Zaman, Country Representative of UNIDO, Uttam Kumar Saha, Country Manager of Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), and Ayan Banerjee, Asia Regional Director of Practical Action. Ali Mushtaq Butt, Head of Danish Trade Mission and DANIDA Business and the Mayor of Faridpur Municipality inaugurated and opened the doors to the innovative pyrolysis plant and a world of new opportunities in Faridpur on 10 June 2024. This plant converts plastic waste into valuable resources, creating local jobs and promoting environmental sustainability in a socially more just and economically viable manner. Funded by the Danida Green Business Partnerships / Danida Market Development Partnerships, the vision is to catalyse and implement sustainable green transitions through public-private partnerships for the benefit of local communities in climate vulnerable developing countries. Thanks to the project partners Practical Action, RiverRecycle, and Society Development Committee, who in collaboration with the Faridpur Municipality and 21 local waste management cooperatives made this vision into reality. On World Environment Day we want to highlight one of our youngest projects, based in Kochi, Kerala. We installed our boom in February, and we are already collecting up to 200kg per day of waste that would otherwise be discarded in the Arabian Sea. Our team in India is once again doing incredible work, mirroring the success of our previous project in Mumbai. This project is a collaboration with the incredible Green Worms. This week was nothing short of instrumental in representing a Finnish startup #RiverRecycle in #EU_NEPAL_Business_Forum, #Nepal_Finland_Forum and #ISSR- a gvt. think tank. This provided me with an immense opportunity to discuss on our represented project of RR with a high level #EU_Delegation (HE: Ambassador of EU to Nepal, Global director of #EIB, DDG of #EuropeanComission, EU Counsellors, HE: Ambassador of Finland to Nepal, etc..), including several esteemed Nepali delegates. Thanks to the #Finnpartnership for arranging this sort of opportunities, that demonstrate to what extent government can support their startup to flourish in developing market, protect environment, and promote sustainability..
