I strive to make sure NCC's project teams have accurate and up-to-date data in use and our construction crews excel by using the latest digital technologies. I'm a seasoned construction, VDC and BIM professional having my boots in the mud and sight set on the horizon - determined to take this industry forward.

I'm a M.Sc studied structural engineering and construction management as my majors. Deep knowledge of AEC and VDC is needed when developing out workflows and serving our teams to do their demanding work.

I build on academic approach, but the real lessons I've learned during the several years working in construction industry. It would be difficult to develop and improve, if you hadn't lived and worked in the beat of construction yourself.

Reach out and join the revolution.

KIRA-Akatemia is study program for young professionals in real estate and construction sector. The program introduces the participants to the broad field of business. A big part of the program is developing a business idea which would create 100m. euro revenue in 2030. The best idea is voted by 600 professionals in yearly KIRA-Forum and our team won the 1st prize.

Over the last decades the cast-in-place production has been playing a minor role as the precast concrete construction has been ruling the construction market in Finland. Partially because of this, the element construction has been the main focus area in BIM software development, and primarily because the efficient managing and producing elements that are repetitive in nature, is the strong area of BIM technology. The technology has evolved from pure designing use to serve the whole construction process. Elsewhere in the world cast-in-place is a general method to build, and despite the popularity of precast in Finland, there are always at least some cast-in-place structures in the project. Often the concrete structures that are the most massive and demanding to realize, are realized by using cast-in-place method.

Interviews conducted in this thesis indicated that there is a significant amount of waste in the Finnish cast-in-place process, and thus the means and methods of the process have plenty of room for development. The flexibility of the cast-in-place is the obvious advantage of the technique, but it is also generally misused. The BIM technology can aid to streamline the process, by offering the features that reduce variation and improve control. The deficiencies in communication were found to be causing the majority of the indicated challenges, which then are accumulated as the process advances. This thesis states that the current BIM technology can be used to improve collaboration between the project parties and suggests that the use of a production phase BIM software should be further developed to aid short-span planning, communicating and on-site use. As a contribution of this thesis, a preliminary concept of such an application is represented.
