Improving child health in Fiji

About us

Cure Kids Fiji was launched in 2006 in partnership with AccorHotels and the New Zealand based charity Cure Kids, who were founded by Rotary in 1971. Since launching in Fiji, child health initiatives worth more than FJD $7.7 million have been delivered in partnership with the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services. Initially, funds raised by our supporters were used to purchase and maintain life-saving medical equipment in the Newborn Intensive Care Units and the Paediatric Intensive Care Units in Lautoka, Nadi and Suva Hospitals. In recent years, Cure Kids Fiji's focus is on preventing and improving outcomes for children living with rheumatic heart disease (RHD), and improving oxygen supplies in health facilities to prevent death and illness from severe respiratory conditions. Cure Kids Fiji's ability to improve child health outcomes in Fiji is enabled by our generous supporters including AccorHotels, Armacup, Fiji Water Foundation, VOMO Island Resort, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, Rotary, Ranadi Organics, and the Australian and New Zealand Government.

Reuben Tucker, our Managing Director Institutional & Business Banking, loves to set himself epic challenges to help out great causes. Earlier this year, he took part in an extended #ChopperBikeRide, cycling 870km (!!) from Christchurch to Queenstown to help out Chopper trusts. Now, he's saddling up again (though in slightly warmer conditions!). Reuben, along with 16 other riders, is taking part in the Cure Kids Fiji 500, a four-day, 500km ride around the island of Viti Levu, to raise funds for the Cure Kids Fiji Oxygen Project. More details here https://lnkd.in/g8dDEbwv All Westpac NZ employees get two volunteer days each year to help out a cause they're passionate about, as well as five wellbeing days to use for whatever's important to them. Nice work on using yours for such meaningful challenges Reuben! 🚵♂️ 💪 💛 #WestpacDoubleYou #TogetherGreater Marc Figgins Martin G. Standss (South Pacific) Limited is honored to support Cure Kids Fiji to transform the health of children in Fiji. Cure Kids Fiji is an NGO that began in 2006, and focuses on two health priorities: preventing rheumatic heart disease (RHD)and enabling access to oxygen. According to the Fiji Ministry of Health, 1 in 50 children in the classrooms of Fiji has rheumatic heart disease which is highly common in children from 5 to 15 years old. The health ministry further states that Rheumatic Heart Disease in children is second only to drowning as the most common cause of death in Fiji. Cure Kids Fiji is working collaboratively with the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Auckland District Health Board, and the Centre for International Child Health at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute to prevent and reduce the impact of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in the Fiji Islands. Cure Kids Fiji also works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to enable sustainable access to oxygen at healthcare centers around Fiji to manage hypoxaemia in children with pneumonia and other serious respiratory conditions. Standss is proud to be associated with such a noble cause and hope that our contribution will make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most. Nitesh P. & Helma Pene pictured below.
