Aldoria (formerly Share My Space) alerts satellite operators on a Russian satellite's unusual close approach on April 12, 2024. [VIVATECH, Paris, MAY 22] In a recent operation, Aldoria detected a sudden close approach by the Russian Luch Olymp K-2 (Luch-2) to a satellite positioned in geostationary orbit (GEO). This manoeuvre occurred on April 12, around 35,780 km in altitude, highlighting the increasing complexity of space activities. Luch Olymp 2, known for its unusual manoeuvres was predicted, by Aldoria, to closely approach the satellite prior to the observed manoeuvre. The original Luch-1, launched in 2014, was known for similar abnormal behaviour, creating a heightened sense of vigilance within the space community. Luch-2, like its predecessor, has a history of unusual manoeuvring near other satellites in geostationary orbit, which has also generated suspicions regarding its mission. Aldoria offers a range of monitoring solutions designed to meet the needs of satellite operators. Aldoria's manoeuvre detection and threat assessment services provide comprehensive analysis and timely warnings of potential risks to space assets. Today, this capability is fundamental to securing critical space infrastructures and enabling informed decision-making. Thanks to its exclusive network of six observation stations, Aldoria detects around 10 manoeuvres per object per month for 25,000 objects, enabling operators to proactively deal with threats and approaches, guaranteeing mission longevity and continuity. The stakes are high: protecting public and private assets in orbit that service fundamental economies is a necessity. As satellite constellations proliferate, so does the risk of collisions, amplifying the demand for Space Situational Awareness (SSA) services. The SSA market is expected to generate $600 million in revenue by 2030 (NSR 2024) driven by the need to manage the growing number of satellites, mitigate collision risks and protect satellites from intentional threats.   The visual shows Aldoria’s optical tracking of Luch-2, passing by the satellite in GEO. The European Space Agency - ESA 2024 Space Environment Report is out and filled with insightful findings. The report underscores several critical issues: - Despite a general reduction, the persistent occurrence of non-deliberate fragmentations, averaging 10.6 annually over the past two decades, remains a concern. 🛰️⚠️ - Approximately two-thirds of rocket body mass launched to LEO adhered to debris guidelines on limiting orbital lifetimes, and about 40-70% of payload mass complied with these guidelines. 📏📊 - The number of tracked objects (>10cm) in Earth orbit reached almost 35,000. This surge, driven by large constellations and miniaturized systems, has led to an unprecedented density of objects in orbit, increasing the risk of collisions and debris generation. 🔭🌍 At Aldoria, we stress the importance of global cooperation and stringent adherence to debris mitigation measures to safeguard the space environment. 📡🌍 Billions of people around the world are tuning in to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics, thanks to telecommunications satellites. These satellites are essential for delivering live broadcasts, enabling global communication, and supporting internet services. With over 500 telecommunications satellites currently in GEO, ensuring uninterrupted service is critical during such major events. 📺🌐 However, these vital assets face significant risks. Recently, an increasing number of interference incidents, including jamming and signal spoofing, affecting European satellites has been reported. 🛰️🛡️At Aldoria (formerly Share My Space), we have publicly documented two unusual close-approach maneuvers in the past months by the Russian satellite Luch-2 near telecommunications satellites. Unfriendly close approaches can cause radio frequency interference that jams signals, disrupting services. 🔭 Aldoria is committed to closely monitoring any abnormal activities. Our network of optical sensors tracks potential threats, enabling us to provide timely alerts to satellite operators and ensuring the security and reliability of telecommunications services. #AldoriaSpace #SpaceSecurity #Olympics2024 #ParisOlympics

Aldoria (formerly Share My Space) Ongoing Russian Tracking: Luch-2's 20km Approach to Telecommunication Satellites 🇷🇺🛰️ Russian satellite Luch-2 is still closely approaching telecommunication satellites in geostationary orbit (GEO) at an altitude of 35,780 km. Early in July, Aldoria's tracking system detected Luch-2 closely and slowly approaching a Norwegian commercial satellite, maintaining a distance of approximately 80 km. As of today, recent maneuvers have reduced this distance to only 20 km, raising significant concerns about the Russian satellite’s intentions. 🚨 Aldoria had already detected suspicious behavior from Luch-2 back in April and has been extremely vigilant in monitoring the satellite’s pattern of life since then. This ongoing surveillance has been crucial in tracking Luch-2's movements and understanding its intentions. 📸 The images taken from Aldoria’s optical observation station illustrate the proximity of Luch-2 to essential telecommunication satellites, including 3 satellites from a Norwegian commercial satellite operator and INTELSAT 1002 (up to bottom order). These satellites all provide a range of telecommunication services, including broadcasting, broadband, and data communications across multiple regions. These satellites are critical for maintaining continuous communication services for public and private sectors. This close approach, from a satellite with undefined intentions, poses a potential risk to these critical assets, emphasizing the importance of space domain awareness. 🌐 🔍📡 With its six observation stations, Aldoria performs multi-orbit tracking, providing extensive surveillance and ensuring that no maneuver goes unnoticed. Aldoria remains vigilant, alerting operators to ensure satellite safety.
