🗳️ Last week, we asked you to guess Dry Bulk fleet segment had seen the least traffic drop through the Panama Canal due to the drought so far. 🌎   ✅ The correct answer is the Handymax fleet. Since the start of the Panama Canal drought in May of last year, vessels between 40K and 50K MT of deadweight have reduced their locks crossings by 30.5%. This includes the months of June and July 2024, when a general alleviation of the drought in the Canal could be observed across all Dry Bulk vessel movements. Also worth noting, the Handymax segment is traditionally the rarest to cross the Canal out of all Dry Bulk fleets.   👉 At second place, we have the Supramax fleet of vessels between 50K and 60K MT of deadweight. This segment has seen a reduction of its traffic through the Panama Canal by 37.5% over the course of the drought so far. The Ultramax fleet (60K-68K MT dwt) is close behind with a 41.4% drop in crossings.   ℹ️ Both Minibulk (<25K MT dwt) and Handysize (25K-40K MT dwt) fleet segments are currently seeing about a 42% decrease in Panama Canal passages throughout the drought.   🔎 Naturally, Panamax and OverPanamax Dry Bulkers between 68K and 100K MT of deadweight are the most severely affected fleet segment, with their traffic through the Canal being slashed by over 67% so far.   💡 Our AXSInsights solution allows you to monitor vessel traffic through every maritime chokepoint in real time.   🚸 Follow us for more fun quizzes coming ahead!

❗❕❗ While Global Bauxite flows registered a 9% year-over-year increase on average since the start of 2024, voyages performed by the VLOC fleet (deadweight over 220,000 MT) have been boosted disproportionately, more particularly post-April. 🛳️   📈 Over the past 4 months, the largest Dry Bulkers on the market, which are loaded with Bauxite only out of Guinea's ports of Boffa, Cap Verga and Kamsar, carried out 25 voyages (compared to 17 in during the same timeframe in 2023) and transported 55.7% more cargo.   🥇 July also marked a record for the most Bauxite discharged from VLOCs in a single month. All this meant that VLOCs achieved a market share of over 9.2% over the last 4 months, whereas they're traditionally responsible for between 5% and 7% of all Bauxite cargoes shipped globally.   💡 Our AXSInsights module has multiple dashboards specifically designed to help their users follow individual Dry Bulk trades and fleets easily. 🌧️ The La Nina weather pattern in Central America has started to alleviate the Panama Canal drought and the Canal's Authority is currently expecting traffic to recover fully by early 2025. 💨 Can you guess which Dry Bulk fleet segment has been the least affected by the disruption to traffic through the locks? 📊

❓ Last time we asked you to guess which Dry Bulk fleets has the lowest average age of its currently active vessels.   🥇 As the majority of you voted, it's the Ultramax fleet! At just under 1500 vessels in count, Ultramaxes of deadweight between 60,000 and 68,000 MT form the "youngest" Dry Bulk fleet currently in service with an average age of 6.7 years.   🥈 The 260+ strong VLOC fleet takes up second place with an average age of 9.4 years across its vessels.   🕰️ On the opposite end of the spectrum, sail the Handymax fleet (~730 vessels) at 14.9 years and the Supramax fleet (~2100 vessels) at 14.5 years of average age.   ℹ️ We should also note that the Handymax fleet is the only Dry Bulkers segment that has reduced its average age compared to almost three years ago.   💡 With AXSInsights, you can follow the entire fleet evolution over time from the freshest order to the latest demolition, for any trade or size.   ✅ Follow us for more fun quizzes coming ahead!

❗ 📉 Drop in Laden VLCC numbers West of Suez has caused a drop in the rates out of MEG (Figure 1). However, this latest reversal could provide support in the market. 🌏 The drop in the number of vessels means fewer miles, as shown by the drop in VLCC ton-miles via the Cape of Good Hope, due to less stems out of the Atlantic Basin for Asia. Nonetheless, the latest increase in the number of VLCCs operating West of Suez could provide support to ton-miles and rates. 💸 (Figure 2) 📊 Ramping up of the Dangote refinery in Nigeria, absorbing much of the country’s crude oil exports, is one major factor in the ton-miles drop out of the Atlantic Basin, which on the other hand has led to a sharp rise in Nigeria’s clean product exports. (Figure 3) ℹ️ Most of those stems are destined for WAFR and transported in MR2. (Figure 4) 📈 Since the beginning of July, there has been an increasing trend of Crude Oil exports destined outside WAFR - something that could provide support to dirty rates out of WAFR. (Figure 5) 💡 Our Trade Flows module allows you to follow any vessel and commodity types in the Tanker market. ❗️❕❗️ Historic low - less than 70 Dry Bulkers crossed the Suez Canal in either direction last week. This is the lowest count of Dry Bulk vessels traversing the Canal since the start of the Red Sea crisis. Half of the vessels that did cross the Suez last week were Supramaxes (50K-60K MT of deadweight) or smaller. ↘️ ℹ️ Unlike Containership vessels, where the largest segment of the fleet is avoiding the Suez Canal altogether, Capesize Dry Bulkers (100K MT of deadweight and larger) do make the occasional crossing. 🙌 Meanwhile, with the La Nina weather pattern intensifying in Central America, Dry Bulker traffic through the Panama Canal is finally starting to recover, with nearly 200 Dry Bulk vessels passing through the locks over the past 5 weeks. 👉 AXSMarine's AXSInsights module has several dashboards specifically designed to help its users monitor Canals' and other maritime chokepoints' traffic, as well as Cape of Good Hope reroutes. 💡 Find out more at https://bit.ly/3Lu0w6t
