🌳 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆!   Today we celebrate the major role this ecosystem plays in sheltering biodiversity, in slowing climate change and in the livelihoods of the communities that depend on it.   It is important to better understand their influence on climate change mitigation and the impact of their disappearance. BlueSeeds is working alongside the European Space Agency - ESA and a consortium led by i-Sea on the ESA Coastal Blue Carbon Project. The project aims to produce comprehensive and precise tools to estimate blue carbon storage evolution in mangroves and other Blue Carbon Ecosystems (BCEs) to guide equitable climate policies and improve conservation management.   Mangroves are also a source of livelihood for many communities around the world. In West Africa, where we work, urban development and agriculture are eating away at mangroves, parcel to parcel. Our West African Mangrove (WAM) project—which we are running with the IUCN thanks to support of The World Bank—aims to empower local communities to be independent in the selling of carbon credits generated by mangrove conservation so they can finance their activities.   Through these projects, we hope to see the people working to protect mangroves become more autonomous in managing their project, so that these ecosystems can regain their place in coastal regions.   #WorldMangroveDay #MangroveDay #Mangrove #Mangroves #BlueCarbon #Environment #ClimateChange #Conservation #NbS #NatureBasedSolutions

The results indicated that many tourists were willing to pay to enter an MPA when the money is dedicated to fund conservation activities.   Learn more in the article of the Mediterranean Protected Areas Network (MedPAN), with whom we have collaborated, and who offers feedback on this programme for managers wishing to implement this type of financing mechanism. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dAvjfiEA   This support programme was created and implemented as part of our mission to help managers of Mediterranean marine protected areas increase their financial self-sufficiency and diversify their sources of income. This work was made possible thanks to the support of the MAVA Foundation and following a study on the funding gap of Mediterranean marine protected areas carried out by Thomas Binet in 2015.   We’re looking forward continuing this work with the MPA managers we collaborated with!   #ConservationFinance  #MarineProtectedAreas #MarineConservation #Conservation

🐟 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀   BlueSeeds is always active in discussing new ways of financing marine conservation in a more dynamic and relevant way, particularly where needs are felt in the field. The financial efforts launched by Europe in this direction to encourage more sustainable fishing seem very promising to us.   Last week, Camille RICHER who manages our prefinancing mechanism for small-scale fishers BlueMove, was invited by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to a fi-compass event to take part in discussions on opportunities for European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) authorities to 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗨 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.   Financial instruments are designed to finance sectors that are typically less attractive to traditional markets. They often take the form of low-interest, long-term loans. Their implementation involves close partnerships between banks and the managing authorities of European funds in each country. These instruments have the potential to improve the impact of European aid for fisheries and aquaculture by creating funding synergies.   EMFAF financial instruments are currently being implemented in Estonia and Finland for fisheries and aquaculture.   When providing guarantees (from private funds) to pre-finance the projects of small-scale fishers before they receive European subsidies, our mechanism BlueMove involves similar stakeholders. It was a great opportunity for Camille to exchange with the panel.   📸: David Plas Photography   #FiCampus #ConservationFinance #Conservation #MarineConservation #SustainableFishing #Fishing #Fisheries #Sustainability #EuropeanUnion #Investment

Understanding and recovering the health of our ocean is essential for the long-term sustainability of the planet. #OceanActionIsClimateAction Countries’ marine commitments through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs - efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change) lack details and fail to exploit the ocean's potential. #COP30 in Brazil will be a key moment to address these shortcomings. ♻️ 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘂𝘀 Marine pollution leads to social, economic, health, and environmental risks. It is essential to address this global challenge. The 1995 Washington Declaration and Global Programme of Action (GPA) aimed to fight land-based marine pollution but faced funding and implementation challenges. After 30 years, land-based pollution remains a major threat to our ocean. As we approach the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, June 2025, it is time for a call for renewed global action by world leaders! 🔗 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 https://lnkd.in/gvZWeQuW Ocean & Climate Platform
