In Paris today, for the #taxcertainty roundtable, co-organized by the OECD Tax and Business at OECD (BIAC). The roundtable brought together close to 50 government officials, business representatives and academics engaged in the tax certainty space from across the globe for an open discussion on the current landscape of tax certainty and ideas on how to make it more efficient, effective and timely. We discussed opportunities for 🎉effective dispute prevention and resolution through improved cooperation with the taxpayer (through co-operative compliance programmes), 🎉better risk assessment (such as through ICAP), 🎉more advanced legal certainty (through Advance Pricing Arrangements (APAs)), 🎉more efficient audit practices (reducing disputes or through joint audits) and finally 🎉better dispute resolution through MAP, which could be supported by mandatory binding arbitration, where disputes arise despite these efforts. In the afternoon, breakout sessions were organised to allow small multi-stakeholder groups of participants to brainstorm best practices and solutions for issues brought to light during the morning sessions. Very open and rewarding discussions! #disputeresolution #disputeprevention #taxarbitration #taxcertainty #OECDtax #OECD #taxation #internationaltax #taxpolicy #Action14 #MAP #APA

Tax certainty remains our top priority as showcased at the Tax Certainty Roundtable in Paris on 8 July 2024. Co-organised with Business at OECD (BIAC), the roundtable brought together close to 50 government officials, business representatives and academics engaged in the tax certainty space from across the globe for an open discussion on the current landscape of tax certainty and ideas on how to make it more efficient, effective and timely. In the morning, participants discussed opportunities for effective dispute prevention and resolution through improved cooperation with the taxpayer (through co-operative compliance programmes), better risk assessment (such as through ICAP), more advanced legal certainty (through Advance Pricing Arrangements (APAs)), more efficient audit practices (reducing disputes or through joint audits) and finally better dispute resolution through MAP, which could be supported by mandatory binding arbitration, where disputes arise despite these efforts. In the afternoon, breakout sessions were organised to allow small multi-stakeholder groups of participants to brainstorm best practices and solutions for issues brought to light during the morning session. Many thanks to Business at OECD (BIAC) and to all the participants for contributing towards more efficient tax certainty for all stakeholders involved. #taxcertainty #OECDtax #OECD #taxation #internationaltax #taxpolicy #Action14 #MAP #APA #OECDICAP #BIAC

📢 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗧𝗖 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 🌍 The Inclusive Framework’s Task Force on the Digital Economy published a draft of the Multilateral Convention (#MLC) for Amount A and related materials in October 2023. Discussions are expected to conclude by the end of June 2024 with a view to reaching an agreement on the text. At ITC Munich 2024 we will present the final outcome or, if discussions are still ongoing, the current status of the negotiations. The final report on Amount B was published by the #OECD in February 2024. The aim of Amount B is to simplify and harmonize the application of the arm's length principle for basic marketing and distribution activities. We are very pleased to announce that Alan McLean will participate in the panel discussion on “Pillar 1” at the upcoming “ITC Munich 2024”. Be sure to catch his insights on 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 (𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆), 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟭:𝟭𝟱 𝗮𝗺. This panel will discuss both Amount A and Amount B. Alan McLean is the Chair of the Tax Committee of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC). He recently retired from the position of Executive Vice President Taxation and Controller for Shell plc, where he was responsible for managing the tax affairs of Shell companies around the world, and for financial reporting, governance, risk, and assurance. He worked for the Shell group in a variety of positions across all its major businesses since 1992.
