Guayaba

On February 1st 2020 a streaming platform dedicated to show exclusively Latin American cinema... the best Latin American cinema, was launched: Guayaba. For 2 years Guayaba programmed almost 200 titles from all corners of our region; daring and important films that showcased the quality and originality of a cinema that is very difficult to find and see in other spaces. The conception and development of Guayaba as a project dates back to January 2020. From the beginning, we have implemented a series of plans and strategies to keep our platform alive and available. Unfortunately, the scope and success of our funding strategies have fallen far short of expectations and needs. And sadly this meant that Guayaba had to suspend its operations as a streaming platform last March 31, 2024. This is the last news we wanted to transmit, but the harshness of the context in which we operate, the enormous difficulties of financing and sustainability for a project like ours forced us to make this difficult decision. All of us on the Guayaba team, who have worked day in and day out to curate and program films that are difficult to find in other spaces, believe deeply in the quality and power of our cinema. That is why Guayaba, as a project deeply connected to Latin American cinema, will continue to live on. Although the streaming platform has suspended its functions for the time being, the team will continue working on new spaces and ideas to give visibility, articulation and positioning to the region's cinema. In spite of everything, we are excited about the new ideas we are already working on for the future of Guayaba and Latin American cinema. We hope you join us in the adventures to come. El 1ero de febrero de 2020 fue lanzada Guayaba, una plataforma de streaming dedicada a mostrar exclusivamente cine latinoamericano… el mejor cine latinoamericano. Durante 2 años Guayaba programó casi 200 títulos procedentes de todos los rincones de nuestra región; películas atrevidas e importantes que denotaban la calidad y originalidad de un cine que es muy difícil de ver y conseguir en otros espacios. La concepción y desarrollo de Guayaba como proyecto se remonta a enero de 2020. Desde el principio, hemos implementado una serie de planes y estrategias para mantener nuestra plataforma viva y disponible. Lamentablemente, el alcance y éxito de nuestras estrategias de financiamiento han estado muy lejos de las expectativas y necesidades. Y tristemente esto implicó que Guayaba tuviera que suspender sus operaciones como plataforma de streaming el pasado 31 de marzo de 2024. Esta es la última noticia que queríamos transmitir, pero la dureza del contexto en el que operamos, las enormes dificultades de financiación y sustentabilidad para un proyecto como el nuestro nos obligaron a tomar esa difícil decisión. Tod🖤s en el equipo de Guayaba, quienes día a día hemos trabajado en curar y programar películas que son difíciles de conseguir en otros espacios, creemos profundamente en la calidad y el poder de nuestro cine. Es por eso que Guayaba, como proyecto profundamente conectado con el cine latinoamericano, seguirá vivo. Aunque la plataforma de streaming ha suspendido sus funciones por ahora, el equipo seguirá trabajando en nuevos espacios e ideas para darle visibilidad, articulación y posicionamiento al cine de la región. A pesar de todo, sentimos entusiasmo ante las nuevas ideas que ya estamos barajando para el futuro de Guayaba y el cine latinoamericano. Ojalá nos acompañes en las aventuras por venir. 🍾 1 año y 101 películas para seguir hacia adelante. 🎥. Durante 2023 programamos 101 películas latinoamericanas en nuestra plataforma. Quisimos rendir homenaje a estas historias, a nuestras historias, a lo que nos identifica. Decidimos entonces hacer un experimento a través de la tecnología. 🖍️ El reto era sencillo: generar una tarjeta de fin de año para darle la bienvenida a 2024 que de alguna manera plasmara la esencia de todas estas maravillosas películas. La Inteligencia Artificial, luego de algunas instrucciones, hizo su magia procesando muchísimos fotogramas de nuestras pelis y llegamos a este resultado: una imagen que contiene en ella todas las películas programadas del 2023 y, que de paso, señala el camino hacia un futuro brillante. En 2024, caminaremos juntxs hacia ese futuro: dando espacio a muchas otras historias fascinantes de nuestra región. ¿Nos acompañan? 🙌🏽 ¡Feliz Año Nuevo de parte de todo el equipo Guayaba! 🎉🎊🥂 • • • 🍾 1 year and 101 films to move forward. 🎥 During 2023 we programmed 101 Latin American films on our platform. We wanted to pay tribute to these stories, to our stories, to what identifies us. We decided to do an experiment with technology. 🖍️ The challenge was simple: to generate a New Year’s card to welcome 2024 that somehow captured the essence of all these wonderful films. The AI, after a few instructions, worked its magic by processing a good number of stills from our films and we arrived at this result: an image that contains in it all the films programmed in 2023 and, incidentally, points the way to a bright future. In 2024, we will walk together towards that future: giving space to many other fascinating stories from our region.
