📅 On June 26, CLS organized a THEMIS SAR kick-off meeting for the IRCG - Irish Coast Guard. 🛰️ CLS has been awarded to provide a Search and Planning System for #SearchAndRescue operations. In addition to core #SAR functions, a key feature of this contract will be the integration of #oilslick drift modelling within THEMIS SAR. This new improvement is a significant advantage in the SAR market, as Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers (MRCCs) are sometimes responsible for monitoring pollution near the coast. CLS’ THEMIS SAR solution is the most advanced Search & Rescue (SAR) decision support solution following #IAMSAR procedures to secure the worlds ‘seas, used by national and regional coordination centres. 🌏 Through this Search Planning solution, navies, coastguards or civil aviation authorities are empowered with a crucial software to save lives at sea. 📣 Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming to CLS the DIRECTEMAR, ARMADA DE CHILE. 🤝 Captain Felipe Paez, Deputy Head of Maritime Technologies department (Tecmar) and Engineer Jaime Araya, Head of IT Security Division of Tecmar come for a #LRIT training at CLS premises in Toulouse HQ, further to recent switch of their LRIT center to cloud mode. 🚢 The Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system identifies and tracks ships worldwide to enhance the safety of navigation and protect the marine environment. DIRECTEMAR, for Dirección General del Territorio Marítimo y de Marina Mercante, is the high-level agency of the Chilean Navy that, as a public service of the State of Chile, ensures compliance with the laws and international agreements in force, to provide maritime safety, protect human life at sea, river and lake areas, preserve the aquatic environment and marine natural resources, exercise maritime police and supervise and regulate the activities carried out in the maritime area under its jurisdiction, with the purpose of contributing to the maritime development of the nation. Discover how CLS digital logbook helps drivers and fleet managers on humanitarian missions. 🚙 Traditionally, drivers filled out their logbooks by hand, recording details like mileage, trip purpose, vehicle type, fuel consumption, and maintenance needs. This paper-based system, however, comes with problems such as errors, incomplete information, and the risk of losing or damaging the logbooks. CLS is solving these issues with its Digital Logbook feature, transforming vehicle tracking for humanitarian missions. By using Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) data, CLS automates and digitizes vehicle journey logging. With VTS installed in humanitarian vehicles, vital information is collected automatically. 🔧 The system starts recording data as soon as the vehicle's ignition is turned on. The VTS terminal sends various critical data points, including start & stop locations and mileage of the trip. Data is continuously updated and transmitted even when the vehicle stops, ensuring a complete and accurate log of each journey. All trip information is collected in real-time and aggregated in a database, displayed on a fleet management platform. 📈 This digitalization provides significant benefits for fleet managers. 🚨 🐢 Bycatch is a major threat to sea turtles, with hundreds of thousands accidentally caught each year but a recent study led by Damien Chevallier from CNRS offers a promising solution! 💡 Researchers recorded 10 sounds made by green turtles, linked to alerts, escape, or social contact. When these sounds were played in feeding areas, turtles became more alert and vigilant. This suggests a new way to keep them away from fishing gear and other dangers. 🛰 Argos services played a crucial role in this study. The sounds were recorded using cameras and hydrophones on the turtles, which were tracked and recovered using Argos services and CLS' Goniometer. This is another fantastic example of how Argos services support research and help protect sea turtles!
