🌞 When it comes to glass performance, reflection plays a crucial role in how light interacts with surfaces. Here’s a quick breakdown: • 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 (𝗟𝗥𝗲): This refers to the percentage of visible light that’s directly reflected from the exterior surface of the glass. It impacts how much light is bounced back, strongly influencing the appearance of a building from the outside. • 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 (𝗟𝗥𝗶): This is the percentage of visible light that’s directly reflected from the interior surface of the glass. It affects the lighting and ambiance within a space, contributing to the overall comfort. Understanding these factors helps to make informed decisions about glazing solutions. In particular, low reflection levels are today requested on several markets for aesthetic reasons but not only. The low outside reflection limits heating effects in cities due to sun beams reflection and is requested by several countries or labels to prevent bird collision and preservation of biodiversity. A low internal reflection is asked for a good night vision, in office towers but this is also a key argument for high-end restaurants and hotels offering their customers outstanding and undisrupted views of the outside, for example.   Our range of COOL-LITE® solar control glass for façades responds well to these trends, while reducing the overheating of buildings and providing occupants with the comfort of generous natural light. 🥁 Time to reveal the answer on the Rw!   Rw is assessing the reduction of noise moving through a glazing. It rates the sound transmission loss, for each frequency (level) of noise. The higher the transmission loss, the better the sound insulation performance. 𝗔 𝗥𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝟲𝟬 𝗱𝗕 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝘄.  Do you know that an increase of one Rw point is equivalent to one less decibel that can be transmitted through a material or given glazing?   By using acoustic PVB (used for our STADIP SLIENCE®) and/or playing on the configuration and thickness of double or triple glazing units, performant glazing can be designed to ensure that buildings provide a comfortable and pleasant acoustic experience for all occupants.  In order to help to choose the best glazing, the acoustic performances are also part of the data that can be found in our online glass calculator www.calumen.com. #glass #acoustic #construction #learningthursdaysbysaintgobain

🔊 Acoustic comfort in buildings is crucial for undisturbed work, relaxation, and living. Controlling noise levels impacts health, productivity, and concentration, as excessive noise can cause stress and sleep disturbances.  In any building type, managing glazing's acoustic performance enhances overall quality of life and functionality of the space. The Rw, or Weighted Sound Reduction Index, is commonly used to indicate how effective a material is based on the amount of sound that can be transmitted through it or not. The answer will be revealed in a few days! #glass #acoustic #construction #learningthursdaysbysaintgobain

We continue our series on key glass performance metrics. After exploring light transmission and solar factor, let’s look at the key performance indicator mixing them: the selectivity. 🧐 Do you know? 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻 (𝗟𝗦𝗚)) 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀’ 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿. High selectivity means the glass allows more natural light to enter while blocking a significant portion of solar heat. This balance enhances indoor comfort by controlling heat gain while letting daylight in, creating a more pleasant and productive environment. It improves energy efficiency by reducing the need for cooling and artificial lighting. When the selectivity of the glass is higher than 2, it gives you twice as much visible light versus heat. Take an example with our COOL-LITE® XTREME range: COOL-LITE®  XTREME 70/33 (II) in standard DGU configuration: -        𝟳𝟬% = light transmission -        𝟯𝟯% = solar factor (g-value) high solar protection with only 1/3 of solar heat gain -         𝟮.𝟭𝟮 = selectivity (70÷33)   All products of the COOL-LITE® XTREME family combine a selectivity above 2.0 with an extremely neutral aesthetic and a low reflection.   For any need of performance data, please refer to our online free glass calculator: www.calumen.com   How does selectivity impact your work or industry? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below! 👇   #glass #solarcontrolglass #glassselectivity #energyefficiency #doyouknow #insightfultuesdaysbysaintgobain
