Today marks the 78th Independance day of India, every year on the 15th of August, dons a festive spirit to celebrate its hard-earned freedom. Since 1947, this tradition continues with the Prime Minister addressing the nation, invoking a sense of unity and patriotism among millions of Indians. The streets come alive with patriotic rallies and parades, vibrant with the colors of the national flag. Schools, colleges, and community organizations organize parades and cultural programs, featuring patriotic songs, dances, and dramas that narrate tales of bravery and resilience. We reached out to our Indian colleagues to learn more about how they celebrate this momentous day. Jayanthi Kurup, Logistics and Purchase Assistant, starts her day by hoisting the flag with her family in their community. She dresses in tricolor clothing, savoring a breakfast that includes jalebis in the hues of the national flag. The celebration continues with a delicious lunch featuring chicken biryani, enjoyed with loved ones. Her evening is filled with joyous festivities in the neighborhood. Traditional attire plays a significant role in the celebrations. Women often wear sarees in saffron, white, and green colors of the Indian flag. Men typically don kurta-pajamas or sherwanis in patriotic colors. Food is an essential part of the celebrations, with many households preparing special Independence Day dishes. Tricolor sweets like barfi, Motichoor Ladoo, Jalebis along with regional delicacies such as biryani and samosas, add flavor to the festivities. kimaya salvi, Production Asst. Manager, starts her day with flag hoisting in her society, followed by traditional sweets like jalebis and kaju katli. She dresses in national day-themed clothing and enjoys a special thali for lunch, which includes Gulab jamun, puris, shahi pulav, papad, and salad. "I always look forward to this day," she shares, "as it fills me with pride and reminds me of the importance of our freedom." India's Independence Day is a day of pride and joy for every Indian, celebrating unity and looking forward to a bright future together. Happy Independence Day! Today marks the National Day of Singapore, let's commemorate the remarkable journey of this vibrant nation - from humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of progress and diversity. Let's take a moment to share how some of our Singaporean colleagues celebrate this significant day. For Sylvia Tan, Finance Director, National Day is a cherished time to gather with family. Dressed in red and white, the colors of the Singapore flag, Sylvia and her loved ones celebrate the day with various traditions and activities. "It's a special occasion where we come together, reflecting on our journey as a nation and our personal connections to it. The colors symbolize our pride and unity, and we feel a deep sense of belonging," she shares. For Portia Loi, Senior Administrative Assistant, celebration is a blend of tradition and modernity. She proudly hangs the Singapore flag outside her house, a symbol of her patriotism and love for her country. "Watching the National Day Parade on TV with my family is a tradition we hold dear. We sing the national anthem together, feeling the spirit of togetherness and national pride," Portia explains. Jia Wei Lee, Senior Purchasing Specialist, takes a unique and enthusiastic approach to celebrating National Day. Donning the Singapore flag, he travels around to share the story of Singapore with the world. "It's my way of spreading awareness and pride about our nation. I want people to know about Singapore's rich history, culture, and the progress we've made," he says. For Mei Shuan Tan, Recruitment Manager, National Day is best celebrated with friends, enjoying the spectacular fireworks that light up the night sky. "Watching fireworks together with my friends is always a magical experience. It brings a sense of joy and wonder, reminding us of the beauty and progress of our nation," Mei Shuan shares. Rodney S., Senior HR Manager, celebrates National Day by spending quality time with his family and educating his daughter about the history of Singapore. "It's important for the younger generation to understand our nation's journey and the sacrifices made to achieve independence. Sharing these stories with my daughter ensures that our heritage and values are passed down." National Day is more than just a public holiday, whether through family gatherings, traditional observances, or spreading the word globally, each celebration is a reflection of individual and collective pride.
