Agriculture is a fundamental sector, but it is also one of the largest consumers of water. Therefore, implementing water-saving practices and building new agricultural models is not only essential to guarantee food security but also to preserve our ecosystems and mitigate the effects of climate change. The Nuup platform, among its multiple efforts to link companies, organizations, funders, and small producers to promote small-scale agriculture as a means of rural prosperity, has developed a rigorous methodology to quantify #water savings in #agriculture, under an intervention scheme focused on improving irrigation efficiency. The Ases On-Chain Protocol #aOCP has recognized nuup's efforts as a strategy for efficient use of water resources. Therefore, the methodology has been evaluated and aligned with the certification standard, allowing the generation of #water #credits in projects that implement saving practices, through a rigorous Monitoring, Verification, and Reporting (MVR) process. This financial instrument recognizes and rewards producers' efforts to optimize the use of this vital resource💧. The methodology is based on the document developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) called "Volumetric water benefit accounting (VWBA)", specifically on the extraction and consumption methods of the "Water supply reliability" category. As part of the aOCP governance, we have opened a #public #consultation process to receive comments on the new methodology. A programme that aims to halt the net loss of biodiversity by 2030 in Mexico, while developing nature markets including biodiversity credits with regional governments, has been announced in an alliance between French and Mexican companies. The NetPositive 2030 programme, focused on biodiversity, carbon, and water, will be supported by a partnership between France-based biodiversity credits company Nat5 and Mexico-headquartered consultancy MEXHUB de Economía Circular. Two Mexican states are involved so far, with MexHub tasked with incentivising others to join, in an initiative that aims to build momentum over time, said🌱 Guillermo H., CEO of Nat5.
