101 Collins Street is proud to announce that we have reached an incredible milestone. We are now 100% electric, meaning we run solely on renewable electricity. The most exciting part being that we have completely eliminated our reliance on fossil fuels. One of the biggest challenges facing the property sector is decarbonisation. While every decarbonisation strategy will look different, the one thing they should all have in common to reach net zero is electrification. Natural gas typically represents between 10% and 30% of a building's greenhouse gas emissions. In our journey to electrification, we have replaced gas and diesel with technology that uses electricity as a source of energy. This enables the building to be powered by renewable electricity. There are many benefits to electrification. One of the most impactful however, is its contribution to climate change mitigation. Data from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water shows buildings account for around 19% of total energy use and 18% of direct carbon emissions in Australia. 101 Collins is proud to be playing a part in this mitigation.
